‘What were you thinking?’ Lorraine Kelly confronts disgraced tractor porn MP Neil Parish in bizarre interview
Lorraine Kelly sat down with former Tory MP Neil Parish for a probing – and at times hard to watch – interview on Monday, following his resignation from Parliament after confessing to watching porn in the House of Commons in April. Dubbed the ‘tractorgate porn MP’, Parish – who represented Tiverton and Honiton – got a grilling from Lorraine as he attempted to address his actions at the time, which viewers describing his responses as ‘toe curling’. Lorraine didn’t hold back in their interview as she kicked off with a direct and disbelieving: ‘What were you thinking?’ Calling it a ‘moment of madness’, Parish said he ‘did the right thing’ by apologising and then leaving Parliament, although he admitted: ‘I should have done it even quicker than I did. I think I went into sort of denial really and I think I went into shock, and I just thought, “Well perhaps if I pretend it hadn’t happened then it hasn’t happened.”’ ‘I wasn’t proud of what I was doing, I knew I was wrong what I … [Read more...] about ‘What were you thinking?’ Lorraine Kelly confronts disgraced tractor porn MP Neil Parish in bizarre interview

Heck Yeah, Tom Cruise
Top Gun came out in the spring of 1986, a movie so big, so wall-to-wall, so resistance-is-futile that you just had to coexist with the damn thing until it finally went away. Now—like one of those flowers that comes into bloom only once every 40 years—it’s back. Apparently Paramount had been after Tom Cruise to make a sequel before the original even opened , which is no surprise. In the 1980s studio executives began to operate more like hedge-fund managers, strip-mining any possible asset in a movie by making sequel after sequel until the thing was finally taken off life support. We can blame Francis Ford Coppola for that; in the 1970s he did the stunning and unrepeatable thing of making one of the greatest American movies of all time—and then making a sequel that was even better. In the ’80s Hollywood tweaked this golden formula by making horrible movies and then a series of progressively worse sequels (unintentionally giving birth to the greatest title in movie history: Rambo: … [Read more...] about Heck Yeah, Tom Cruise
It’s going to be incredibly hard for Democrats to protect abortion rights
President Joe Biden encapsulated what he hoped Democratic voters would understand after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade : “This fall, Roe is on the ballot.” There is some evidence that this message is sticking. A new CBS News/YouGov poll found that 50 per cent of Democratic voters said that the decision makes them more likely to vote compared to 77 per cent of Republicans who say it will have no effect on their likeliness to vote, though that might be due to the fact Republicans are already motivated to vote this midterm election to win back the House and Senate. The bad news for Democrats and good news for Republicans is that 61 per cent of independents say that it will have no effect on how likely they are to vote. But a majority of voters – 64 per cent altogether – say they want to keep abortion legal in either all or most cases and 51 per cent say the court’s decision will make life worse. FiveThirtyEight shows that the generic ballot, which … [Read more...] about It’s going to be incredibly hard for Democrats to protect abortion rights
The cold war between DeSantis and Trump is heating up
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has benefited from something of a media blitz this week. The New Yorker published a long profile , while the Washington Post reported that Florida voters are generally happy with his laissez-faire approach to the Covid-19 pandemic. Politico, meanwhile, reported that DeSantis has reeled in multiple donors who formerly backed Donald Trump — and that he hasn’t sought out Trump’s endorsement for his re-election. Those last two show just how significant the cold war between Trump and DeSantis really is. As Trump weighs whether to stage a third run for president in 2024, DeSantis is clearly making a play for the Republican nomination for president. He also got an unexpected gift when a federal grand jury indicted his 2018 opponent Andrew Gillum , meaning he can now boast that having already beat a corrupt Democrat, he is well-placed to vanquish whomever the party nominates to challenge him. It’s quite a turnaround from just … [Read more...] about The cold war between DeSantis and Trump is heating up
Jared and Ivanka are turning on Trump — and now you see the true face of the Republican Party
One big bonus of nepotism is ensuring that you’re surrounded with unthinking, uncritical loyalists. So Donald Trump must be especially miffed that his own family has been nervously but definitively sliding the knife between his shoulder blades during the ongoing January 6 Congressional hearings. Trump’s daughter, former Senior White House Advisor Ivanka Trump, said in taped testimony during the hearings on Thursday that she did not believe her father’s baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen. “I respect Attorney General Barr,” she said . “So I accepted what he was saying [when he said that the claims of election fraud were false.]” Donald Trump immediately hit back against his own daughter. He insisted that Ivanka had not been involved in studying election results, and dismissed her on the right-wing social media site Truth Social: “She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr.” Then, today, Ivanka’s husband … [Read more...] about Jared and Ivanka are turning on Trump — and now you see the true face of the Republican Party
