THE grieving mum of a British soldier has forgiven his best friend after he admitted he accidentally shot him dead. Anne Hetherington, 59, described Colin Theaker as a "broken soul" after he unintentionally fired a service pistol at her son, Lance Corporal Scott Hetherington in 2017. Colin pleaded guilty on Monday to killing his best friend with a single shot while "playing around" with the weapon in their accommodation at an Army camp in Iraq. But Anne says the tragedy goes beyond just the loss of her son — which is why she forgave Colin. She previously told The Sun on Sunday: "Two young men died that day but one of them is still breathing. Colin admits he would have taken his own life if I hadn’t forgiven him. "He can’t cope with what happened. I am a grieving mum but he is drowning in not just grief but guilt, too. I haven’t mourned my son yet... I need to make sure Colin survives." LCpl Theaker appeared in Catterick Garrison court martial centre via a video … [Read more...] about Mum of Brit soldier, 22, forgives best friend after he admits to accidentally shooting him dead on Iraq tour

The mayor of the Italian town of Cremona, the home of some of the world's most sought-after instruments, and former workshop of Stradivari, has made a seemingly odd request of its citizens: that they keep quiet. All through this month, an elite group of sound engineers is working to create what's called the "Stradivarius Sound Bank," an impressive and hopefully flawless digital recording featuring the sounds of original Stradivarius violins. Using 32 hypersensitive microphones, the sound engineers are recording the violins as they are played at the Museo del Violino's auditorium. The grand project posed the problem of extraneous sounds. "The streets around the auditorium are all made of cobblestone, an auditory nightmare," Leonardo Tedeschi, a sound engineer and former DJ who came up with the Stradivarius Sound Bank idea, told The New York Times. Everything from car engines to a woman walking … [Read more...] about Italian Mayor Deploys Cops, Urges Entire Town to Keep Mum to Save Violin’s Sound

World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard said playing Champions League football remains the priority as he mulls leaving his beloved Germany or pushing through a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Pavard's status skyrocketed in the summer when he scored a superb goal in a 4-3 last-16 win over Argentina that set France on their way to World Cup glory in Russia. The 22-year-old defender has been at VfB Stuttgart since 2016 but seems unlikely to remain at the struggling side beyond this season, with a big-money move to Bayern among other "concrete offers" on the table. "I haven't made promises to any clubs," Pavard told Sky Germany on Thursday. "Maybe I will go (to Bayern) but I don't know what the future has in store for me. "I've never hidden the fact that my ambition is to play in the Champions League." Despite reports linking the centre-back to English giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Napoli, Pavard's love affair with all things German could see him remain in the … [Read more...] about Pavard keeps mum amid Bayern, Liverpool and Napoli rumours
