Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes David de Gea is challenging Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar to become Manchester United's greatest goalkeeper. De Gea made 11 second-half saves after Tottenham failed to work him in the first-half of their 1-0 defeat to United at Wembley. De Gea's denial from Toby Alderweireld at the near post was singled out by matchwinner Marcus Rashford as the standout stop but the Spaniard modestly claimed he could not remember his saves. Schmeichel won five Premier Leagues, three FA Cups, the League Cup and the Champions League during eight illustrious years with United in the 90s, a period which featured two double-winning campaigns and the Treble season. Van der Sar lifted four leagues, the Champions League and the Club World Cup in his six years at Old Trafford, whereas De Gea has won the English championship just once. Although Schmeichel's and Van der Sar's careers at Old Trafford were laden with silverware, Solskjaer feels De Gea could be remembered as … [Read more...] about What Solskjaer said about David de Gea after Manchester United vs Tottenham

Once upon a time, Premier League giants Manchester United made a shock move to sign a fringe Stoke City goalkeeper. No, this is not a tale about Lee Grant, the Potters’ veteran stopper yesterday reported by the Telegraph to be a target for United boss Jose Mourinho , but Ben Foster. It was 2005, and Foster eventually made a £1m move to Old Trafford, won England honours and eventually ended up at West Brom. And it seems that story has now gone full circle with Foster reported to again be the subject of a £1m bid from a Premier League club. According to the Mail , the 35-year-old is wanted by Watford, but this time the story may not have a happy ending. Not only have the relegated Baggies rejected Watford’s approach, they have also fined Foster for refusing to join the rest of the West Brom squad for a pre-season training camp in Portugal. The Mail claim West Brom are expecting a much higher offer for Foster, who is said to also be attracting the attention of … [Read more...] about Transfer gossip: What is it about Manchester United and Stoke City goalkeepers?
