BRADLEY Walsh keeled over in stitches when a filthy answer cropped up on The Chase tonight - which even had Anne Hegerty shaking with laughter. The host got the giggles when he asked contestant Charles to name the odd one out of three potential types of starfish. He said: "Which of these is NOT a genuine species of starfish?" But as Bradley spotted the cheeky option "Chocolate starfish" among the bizarre options, he collapsed into fits of laughter. The Chaser couldn't contain her amusement either, and Charles said: "Chocolate starfish. Funnily enough, it's the only starfish I've heard of." Viewers of the ITV quiz show were in bits at home too, and they raced to Twitter in their droves to giggle at the filthy answer. One fan said on Twitter: "Getting chocolate starfish into a daytime quiz show Question writer deserves a bonus" Another wrote: "Sorry. Just had to Google chocolate starfish. Led a sheltered life" As another person said: "Chocolate Starfish question on … [Read more...] about Bradley Walsh keels over with laughter on The Chase as filthy answer ‘chocolate starfish’ crops up

Public to help pick student doctors at Keele University
Members of the public will soon be helping to select the next generation of doctors. Keele University is looking for volunteers who can act as lay members on mini-interview panels. They will score prospective medical students as part of the application process. Professor Andrew Hassall, head of Keele’s school of medicine, said: “The public’s view is just as important to us as the views of clinicians or academics, and the volunteers’ scores will count the same as those of the other interviewers. "However, no one will have to make a judgement on whether the school should accept a prospective student, only score their answers to the questions asked. No one person takes the final decision to accept a student or not. Volunteers need to live within 25 miles of the campus, but don’t need any specific education or experience for the role. They should also have good communication skills. Some of the recruits could also get the chance to sit on committees to give … [Read more...] about Public to help pick student doctors at Keele University
In 1970 Keele was, in the eye of the storm, gripped by student unrest
It took sometime for the year of revolution, 1968, to seep into the conscience of the people of North Staffordshire. Two years in fact. The late spring and the summer of 1970 was a fine one, with the area basking in warm weather. Temperatures were also rising at Keele University which, like other universities, was in the grip of student unrest. It was endemic in Higher Education in Britain in the 70s. I experienced it myself later in the decade at York University. It seemed that the academic year was incomplete without a sit in or demonstration, at some real or imagined injustice. In 1970 Keele was at the centre of the storm and events, which over the subsequent months, would see vandalism, arson and nude sunbathing dominate the nation and local headlines. Discontent surfaced in March, when part of an administration building was mysteriously burned down. Some of the student body were suspicious of the record system feeling these “secret files” concerned the political … [Read more...] about In 1970 Keele was, in the eye of the storm, gripped by student unrest
‘People Are Keeling Over’: Overcrowded Trains Prompt Health Concerns During Heatwave
Overcrowding is on the rise on Britain’s trains, exacerbating health concerns in the current heatwave as packed and overheated trains cause people to faint in carriages and at stations. Figures released on Tuesday by the Department of Transport reveal that overcrowding has remained a problem for many of the nation’s biggest stations in the last year. On a normal weekday, almost 170,000 a day people are forced to stand up on trains during the morning commute into the biggest cities. The five most overcrowded stations are in London, Cambridge, Manchester, Leeds and Cardiff. During morning peak times, 23% of passengers stand on trains going into London. The data revealed that people arriving at Blackfriars in the morning are the most likely commuters to be standing in the country, with 36% of passengers unable to find a seat. Mick Cash, general secretary of the RMT trade union, said: “Overcrowding is a major issue. “We’re having to … [Read more...] about ‘People Are Keeling Over’: Overcrowded Trains Prompt Health Concerns During Heatwave
Horror as Eva, 2, found keeled over day after all-clear from GP
A toddler has been rushed to hospital with pneumonia by her frantic parents, despite being given the all clear just 24 hours earlier by her GP. Two-and-a-half-year-old Eva Garland had been suffering with a cough for a week, prompting her parents to take her to a GP surgery in Hull. They were told the cough would pass, but the very next day her parents found Eva keeled over and clutching her heart. “There’s got to be something very wrong if a doctor can let a little girl go home despite being so ill,” said Eva’s father, Louis Garland. “We took her to the doctors on the Friday, and by Saturday afternoon I had to race her to A&E and within five minutes they had her in a room and were putting drips in her. “She was clutching at her heart and you could hear it pounding, and we were told it was going nearly double the speed it should be. She had pneumonia in her left lung. “I just can’t believe the GP didn’t check her heartbeat or … [Read more...] about Horror as Eva, 2, found keeled over day after all-clear from GP
