Bernie Ecclestone claims he offered to pay Lewis Hamilton’s wages and stands by “fair” Putin
Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has accused Lewis Hamilton of having a short memory in the wake of his controversial comments about the seven-time world champion and Russian despot Vladimir Putin. Ecclestone sparked outrage last week when he defended former F1 driver Nelson Piquet, who, it emerged, used racial and homophobic slurs when talking about Hamilton in an interview last year. The 91-year-old also declared he would “take a bullet” for Putin, despite his invasion of neighbouring Ukraine , which has seen thousands of innocent civilians killed or displaced. In response, Hamilton described Ecclestone as an “older voice” who no longer represented the sport. Romain Grosjean calls IndyCar teammate “absolute idiot” after ‘threatening to punch him’
Former F1 star Romain Grosjean has become embroiled in a toxic feud with one of his IndyCar teammates. While Zhou Guanyu’s horror crash at the British Grand Prix brought back memories of Grosjean’s own death-defying shunt at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, the Frenchman was engaged in a brutal battle with fellow Andretti team driver Alexander Rossi during Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. Incredibly, the pair collided at least three times in quick succession as they battled for position, with Rossi widely believed to be the guilty party. Grosjean was left furious and screamed over his radio: “What the [expletive]. What’s wrong with him? What’s wrong with him? Michael [Andretti, team boss] you need to have a word with him. Ferrari blasted for “no logic” decision that cost Charles Leclerc British Grand Prix win
Ferrari have been slammed for a decision which cost Charles Leclerc victory at the British Grand Prix by former world champion Jacques Villeneuve. Leclerc looked on course for victory at Silverstone which would have breathed new life into his championship hopes, with leader Max Verstappen’s finishing down in seventh in his wounded Red Bull. A late safety car changed the complexion of the race and saw Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton pit for fresh tyres, with Leclerc left out on worn hard rubber. When racing resumed, Sainz barged his way into the lead and went on to win the race. Leclerc didn’t even finish on the podium, dropping to fourth following an epic tussle with Perez and Hamilton. Villeneuve, whose late father Gilles drove for Ferrari in the late 70s and early 80s, was impressed with Leclerc’s pace and couldn’t understand the decision to leave the Monegasque out on old tyres for the final stint. How special F1 engineering saved Zhou Guanyu’s life in British Grand Prix crash at Silverstone
Silverstone delivered one of the most exciting grands prix in years, with Carlos Sainz taking his first career win and five drivers scrapping for the runner-up spot in the closing laps. It was a sell-out show with celebs including Tom Cruise getting in on the action. The No.24 Alfa Romeo was clipped by Russell, and sent flying down the track upside down before it flipped over the top of the tyre barrier. The roll hoop was destroyed but the Halo cockpit protection did its job. It is the fourth time the device, introduced in 2018, has saved an F1 driver from serious injury. Confirmation that the … [Read more...] about How special F1 engineering saved Zhou Guanyu’s life in British Grand Prix crash at Silverstone
