Harry Styles, Work in Progress
Photo: Harry Styles via YouTube The last time Harry Styles released an album, the rollout did not go as planned. One morning, the British singer-songwriter and erstwhile One Direction member was a guest on The Howard Stern Show , where he answered questions about his love life and performed songs off his late-2019 sophomore album, Fine Line . The next, he was on an unplanned break in the States, where an explosion of COVID-19 infections forced businesses and venues to close. Styles wisely canceled a spring 2020 North American tour out of caution; that March, for the first time in a long while, the singer found himself taking inventory of relationships neglected during his tenure in the boy band, which released an album every year between 2011 and 2015 and spent many of the intervening months on the road. It seemed as though Styles would initially maintain a similar pace in his solo career as the spring 2017 release of his self-titled debut dovetailed with the summer … [Read more...] about Harry Styles, Work in Progress

Justin Thomas describes Tiger Woods as ‘absurd’ after PGA Championship performance
US PGA champion Justin Thomas has labelled Tiger Woods ’ return from injury as ‘absurd’ after the 15-time major winner made the cut at Southern Hills. Woods, who was injured in a car crash last year, backed up making the weekend’s play at April’s Masters by doing the same at the PGA Championship last week. During the first three days at Southern Hills, the 46-year-old limped around the course and was forced to withdraw ahead of his final round due to pain. However, Thomas, who lifted his second PGA title on Sunday after beating Will Zalatoris in a play-off, believes Woods has performed admirably considering the ordeal he has been through. Thomas said: ‘I wouldn’t say how tough it was to see him struggle. I mean, he made the cut in his second major in a row, what, a year and a half after being in a gruesome car accident, (with a) broken leg? ‘I don’t think you guys understand how unbelievable that is. He’s a freak of nature. It’s mind-blowing the things that he can … [Read more...] about Justin Thomas describes Tiger Woods as ‘absurd’ after PGA Championship performance
Senator ‘Bam Bam’: Former Wallaby David Pocock to enter a whole new ball game
It surprised no one in sport when Wallabies great David Pocock announced his tilt at federal politics last year, and it would have surprised no one that he was on the verge of victory on Monday, a Senate seat within reach. A single-minded pursuit of excellence, fuelled by a level of discipline rare even among elite athletes, propelled Pocock to the top of international rugby. Considered among a handful of the world’s best in his day, Pocock played 91 tests for the Wallabies across three World Cups, winning two peer-voted John Eales Medals and three world player of the year nominations. Nicknamed “Bam Bam” for his powerful physique, he was the match-winning difference for Australia on countless occasions, most famously in the quarter-finals of the 2011 Rugby World Cup, where his world’s-best “jackaling” staved off countless tryline raids by South Africa and eventually if controversially, won the Wallabies a spot in the semi-finals. Four years later he had the same impact at the … [Read more...] about Senator ‘Bam Bam’: Former Wallaby David Pocock to enter a whole new ball game
Watch: Passenger forced to land plane after pilot falls unconscious
A passenger with no flying experience safely landed a light aircraft at an airport in Florida after his pilot fell unconscious, in what has been described as “nothing short of a miracle”. Remarkable audio from the cockpit showed the man telling air traffic control: "I've got a serious situation here. My pilot has gone incoherent and I have no idea how to fly the airplane." The man, who has not been identified, was a passenger on a Cessna 208 Caravan and was flying home to Florida from the Bahamas to see his pregnant wife. However, just off the coastline, about 70 miles north of their destination, the pilot suffered what is thought to be a medical emergency. Facing a potential catastrophe, the passenger made contact with air traffic control, who asked for his position. “I have no idea,” he said. “I can see the coast of Florida in front of me.” This is brand new video (courtesy of Jeff Chandler) of a passenger landing a plane today at PBIA. @WPBF25News at 11. … [Read more...] about Watch: Passenger forced to land plane after pilot falls unconscious
‘Extraordinary’ failings of NHS criticised after surgeons wrongly blamed for 67 deaths
A coroner has criticised “extraordinary” shortcomings in a NHS report that wrongly blamed a team of award-winning surgeons for the deaths of dozens of patients. The report produced by NHS Improvement found that cardiac surgeons at St George’s Hospital, in south London, had caused the deaths of 67 patients, leaving their reputations in tatters. St George’s NHS Trust suspended two surgeons and paid hundreds of thousands of pounds in legal fees over claims of clinical malpractice and mistakes in care. But in the latest of a series of inquests, Prof Fiona Wilcox, senior coroner for inner west London, criticised the findings of and said that no blame should have been attached to St George’s medical staff and the two surgeons, Prof Marjan Jahangiri and Dr Justin Nowell. Over the course of two inquests in the last fortnight, Prof Wilcox has delivered a series of criticisms of the independent mortality review. She ruled that the “entire process” was “faulty”, that its conclusions … [Read more...] about ‘Extraordinary’ failings of NHS criticised after surgeons wrongly blamed for 67 deaths
Patients died needlessly because of ‘botched’ NHS inquiry into heart deaths at hospital, says coroner
Heart surgery patients in London have died “unnecessarily” and face increased risk of death as a result of botched NHS investigations into dozens of cardiac deaths, a coroner has warned. Professor Fiona Wilcox said “unnecessary” patient deaths have occurred as a result of heart surgery at St George’s University Hospital Trust being restricted and emergencies diverted to other “over-stretched” hospitals, following investigations by the NHS Improvement (NHSI) watchdog which criticised the standard of care at its cardiac unit. Her warning follows a series of inquest hearings during which she found the NHSI wrongly blamed a team of cardiac surgeons for the deaths of dozens of patients at St George’s Hospital, in south London. Prof Wilcox, senior coroner for South West London, has now said the “inadequate” NHSI investigations, which criticised the care of 67 patients, led to people being put at increased risk of death. After the NHSI ruled there were “shortcomings” in care, two … [Read more...] about Patients died needlessly because of ‘botched’ NHS inquiry into heart deaths at hospital, says coroner
