There aren't many thing that us Brits look forward to more than a bank holiday weekend. Those long, four day weekends are a particular treat in the calendar and often filled with lots of booze, lots of food and lots of time with family and friends. But we've been treated to quite a few bank holidays already this year - in fact, last month we enjoyed two of them, one at the beginning of May and one at the end of the Month. We only get a few bank holidays each year - so how many have we got left to enjoy in 2019? Here is the full list of bank and public holidays in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. In the UK we have a total of eight bank holidays throughout the year in England and Wales, while there are nine in Scotland and 10 in Northern Ireland. Yes, I know it's only day 156 of the year with 209 to go in 2019 (and 203 until Christmas Day).Norwich City's fixtures aren't out for another week, the cricket season is less than a third of the way through and the school summer holidays are more than a month away.So what has made me think of the festive season? Well, I was being reminded that after last week's bank holiday Monday, there's only one more until Crimbo.During a 38-day period in April and May we had no fewer than four holiday days - and now there's just one in the next 200 or so days.Surely it's time to re-think that? A route on the East Coast Main Line will be shut on August Bank Holiday weekend - and it'll affect Teessiders planning on travelling to the Big Smoke. The biggest upgrade of the line in a generation will see the first major closure in 20 years this summer. The £1.2bn plan is set to create capacity for up to 10,000 extra seats a day on long-distance services, see faster journeys and improve reliability for passengers. But the first major engineering works will mean no trains are able to travel between Peterborough or Cambridge, and London King’s Cross or London St Pancras International, during the August Bank Holiday weekend. Over the Bank Holiday Weekend, major work is taking place between Peterborough and London King’s Cross, as well as a track renewal in Newark. Passengers using services which start or terminate in the capital are strongly advised not to travel on August 24 and 25 and to instead travel on August 23 or August 27.
