It is the prevailing shorthand for a cultural atmosphere, mood, and zeitgeist. Vibe talk has also entered politics. In this magazine in 2021, Derek Thompson invited readers to think of politics as a “ vibes war .” This spring, again in these pages, David A. Graham argued that John Fetterman won the Democratic Senate primary for Pennsylvania less on policy than “ on vibes .” And Rolling Stone pronounced that Fetterman was “neither centrist nor a progressive. Kate Moss has broken her silence on her part in Johnny Depp 's libel trial against Amber Heard and claimed that she 'had to say the truth.' The 48-year-old supermodel appeared as a witness in her ex-partner's multimillion-dollar US lawsuit against Heard, 36, after the Aquaman actress mentioned a rumour Kate was once pushed down the stairs by Depp while the two were in a relationship. Depp won the lawsuit against Heard last month after a jury ruled her 2018 article in the Washington Post was defamatory. During her appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Moss was asked about her defence of Depp by presenter Lauren Laverne. Kate told the host: “I know the truth about Johnny. Charles Swift OBE was first elected as Labour councillor for North Ward in Peterborough in 1954 at the age of 23 and was the youngest ever member of the city council. He went on to be a councillor for 62 years, and also led the council. His family said Mr Swift, who died after a short illness, was a "genuine gentleman". His son Paul said: "Our family have been very honoured to have had such a great man in our lives and we shall miss him tremendously. "Peterborough has lost such a genuine gentleman." Company payrolls have now increased for 12 months in a row with a record 779,000 people in employment. It comes as pharmaceutical company Almac announced a £20m investment at Craigavon HQ to accommodate more staff. It is in the middle of a global recruitment campaign to add 1,800 people to the business, bringing employment to more than 8,000. The NI Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) said there had been a statistically significant increase in the employment rate in the quarter from February to April. It is the measurement of the percentage of working age people in a job. It increased by 1.5 percentage points to 70.2%. The region's two suppliers, SSE and Firmus, last increased their prices at the start of July. The price of gas on global markets has surged in the last two months. Russia has reduced its supplies of gas to Europe, increasing competition for gas produced in other countries. Next week the UK is expected to take delivery of a shipment of gas from Australia. The regulator, John French, warned that households will face further gas price rises of up to 30% in the coming weeks. NI house prices ‘up 9.6% on same period last year’

Prices rose by 3.2% from the first quarter and were up 9.6% compared to the same period a year ago. There were quarterly increases in all council areas, ranging from 0.6% in Fermanagh and Omagh to 5.2% in Ards and North Down. The average price across all property types was £169,063, 20% higher compared to the average pre-pandemic price. The figures are from the Northern Ireland Residential Property Price Index, which analyses almost all sales, including cash deals. All property types saw increases over the quarter: detached by 4.2%, semi-detached properties by 3.4%, terraces by 2.0% and apartments by 2.5%. Environmentalist and Māori rights activist Mike Smith is fighting to have his day in court against seven large fossil fuel users and suppliers. Last year, the Court of Appeal dismissed Smith’s claim that the ‘Polluting 7’ are breaching well-established common law principles by contributing to climate change. Smith (Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Kahu) wants to convince the Supreme Court to allow him to proceed to a full hearing, with expert evidence and witnesses.
