Drivers are facing more chaos during this morning’s rush hour as campaigners blocked motorways in a protest over soaring fuel prices . Protesters created a rolling blockade along the M4, heading towards the Prince of Wales bridge. Similar demonstrations have also been reported in Yorkshire and Shropshire. Among the roads that have been disrupted since 7am are: the M4 and Prince of Wales Bridge the M5 in Devon the M32 the A38 the M180 in Lincolnshire the A12 in Essex the M62 in Yorkshire the A92 in Scotland Police warned of “serious disruption throughout the day”, with motorists urged to stay at home where possible. M4 brought to ‘standstill’ by fuel protesters targeting rush hour traffic
Police have warned of ‘serious disruption throughout the day’ in Britain – as protesters target motorways in protest over high fuel prices. Rolling roadblocks have brought parts of the M4 to a standstill. People in queues of traffic have even been filmed playing football on an empty carriageway. Campaigners have so far focused on a stretch of motorway between Bristol and South Wales, including the Prince of Wales Severn bridge crossing. This morning, a convoy of 20 vehicles set off from the Magor services on the M4, near Caldicot in South Wales. Drivers taking part in the protest plan to slow to 30mph in lanes one and two of affected roads. Others told officers they planned to meet ‘in the middle’ and block the motorway. Mobile welder Richard Dite, 44, told reporters it is costing him over £300 in fuel to get to work every week due to price hikes. Two men, 17 and 18, were gunned down while another was wounded after a shooting erupted at a pool party in Texas on July 1. A series of shootings were reported in Chicago over the Independence Day weekend, leaving at least eight people dead. Medics pronounced a man, 26, dead after he was shot in the arm and head just after 5pm on Friday. Hours later, cops found a woman, 24, with gunshot wounds in her torso and she was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, NBC Chicago reports. A TEEN who lost part of her leg after being attacked by a nine-foot shark in Florida has spoken of her bloody ordeal for the first time. Addison Bethea, 17, was scalloping in water about five feet deep near Grassy Island, just off Keaton Beach, when she was attacked by the beast in Taylor County on Thursday. She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries as doctors desperately attempted to save her severely torn lib. On Friday, she described the heroic efforts of her half-brother Rhett Willingham, 22, who jumped in the water and beat the huge shark off until his sibling was free. "Rhett was just like tapping me and the something latches onto my leg. And I was like, 'That’s not Rhett'. Bedford fire: Three injured including firefighter after major gas explosion causes ‘inferno’ at block of flats
Three people, including a firefighter, have been taken to hospital after a major gas explosion caused an "inferno" at a block of 20 flats in Bedford. Two of them suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to Bedford Hospital South Wing, while a third sustained leg injuries and was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital. The blaze on Redwood Grove was so intense that it led to the collapse of the building's roof. The firefighter was one of those hurt by smoke inhalation, said the East of England Ambulance Service, as fire teams described the blaze as a "major incident". A local resident said they saw one person leap from a second-floor window to escape the burning block.
