Black cab rapist John Worboys loses appeal against life sentences for drugging women

· February 24, 2021 ·

John Worboys, the serial sex attacker known as the black cab rapist, has lost his appeal against his life sentences for drugging lone female passengers in order to sexually assault them. Worboys , who changed his name in prison to John Radford, targeted women while working as a London cabbie, claiming to have scooped a windfall on the lottery or at the horses. He was first jailed in 2009 for 19 sex offences against 12 women between 2006 and 2008 and was handed two life sentences in December 2019 when new victims came forward, as a judge found he posed an ongoing danger to women. Police believe the 63-year-old former male stripper committed offences against more than 100 women before he was caught. In 2018, the Parole Board controversially said Worboys could be freed from prison, but the decision was reversed after a landmark legal challenge by two of his victims. Chrissy Teigen has begged Joe Biden to unfollow her on Twitter . The American model, 34, has been a huge supporter of the new President of the United States after Donald Trump ’s departure from the White House. But taking to the social media site on Tuesday, John Legend’s wife begged Biden to press the unfollow button on her profile because she needs to ‘flourish’ away from him. The bubbly star then joked that her issues were her own, and it had nothing to do with the 78-year-old politician. “I have tweeted a handful of times since my treasured @POTUS following,” the model began. “In order for me to flourish as me, I must ask you to please lord unfollow me. I love you.” “It’s not you it’s me!!!!” she joked. Following her unexpected outburst, fans flocked to question why Chrissy wanted the President to unfollow her – especially due to the fact he only follows a small number of people in the public eye. Olympic star Callum Skinner creates cycling glasses that allow riders to see behind them

· February 24, 2021 ·

An Olympic gold medallist has created specialist glasses that give cyclists eyes at the back of their heads. Callum Skinner, 28, who won gold and silver at the 2016 Olympics, developed the technology with physicist Alex Macdonald after raising more than £100,000 through a Kickstarter campaign. The sunglasses allow cyclists to see forwards and backwards by shifting focus rather than having to turn their heads. They use two-part angled lenses with semi-transparent mirrors and will cost £199.99. The Edinburgh-based inventors hope their glasses will make amateur cycling safer and give other athletes including runners and rowers an advantage. Advertisement "As a passionate cyclist, I'm acutely aware of the importance of road safety," said Skinner. "I'm also struck by the potential of HindSight glasses to help professional cyclists reach their peak performance. Three things that could derail Boris Johnson’s timetable for easing lockdown

· February 24, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson has said he is "very optimistic" that England can finally return to normal life on June 21 under his four-step roadmap out of lockdown. However the Prime Minister warned that "nothing can be guaranteed", as the Government maintains a cautious approach to freeing Brits from the limits governing daily life. Plans to reopen schools and allow greater outdoor socialising in March, to reopen beer gardens, shops and salons in April, and to scrap most rules on social contact in May have offered hope to millions. However the PM has been clear that he will be governed by "data not dates" and the timetable could slip if the virus begins to spiral. Four tests must be met before England can move onto the next step of the roadmap, which include how the vaccine rollout is going and whether there are any new variants causing concern. The document states: "Around four weeks is required to see the impact of the previous step in the data and the Government has committed to … [Read more...] about Three things that could derail Boris Johnson’s timetable for easing lockdown

Antiques Roadshow guest learns real eye-watering value of ‘worthless’ jewellery

· February 22, 2021 ·

This week's Antiques Roadshow saw an expert reveal the true eye-watering value of jewellery its owner had been told wasn't "worth anything". In Sunday night's episode on BBC One from Windermere Jetty Museum in the Lake District, two pieces of jewellery offered some surprises for one guest. Described by expert John Benjamin as an "eclectic" group of items, more was then revealed by the female guest. According to the guest's grandmother who had written down the person's name who she believed had designed the pendant, a Cooper. The guest revealed that her great-grandmother and her husband had been involved in the arts and crafts movement, with the pendant being designed for her. Benjamin then cited a "highly important craftsman" named John Paul Cooper who was likely behind the pendant. However, the lack of signature made it impossible to definitely attribute to Cooper, despite various aspects of the piece being in line with his style. It was also noted that a water … [Read more...] about Antiques Roadshow guest learns real eye-watering value of ‘worthless’ jewellery
