India’s Jet Airways (JET.NS) said on Wednesday it is in talks with its lenders to resolve its debt problems, amid increasing prospects of a bailout by major shareholder Etihad Airways, Trend reports referring to Reuters. Shares in Jet, which has been hit by intense competition, a depreciating rupee and high oil prices and said it was now looking at a cash injection by stakeholders and board changes, closed more than 8 percent lower. Representatives of the two airlines were due to meet with creditors, led by Jet’s biggest lender State Bank of India (SBI.NS), in Mumbai to discuss a proposal that involves Etihad increasing its stake, a source familiar with the situation said. However, India’s civil aviation secretary, R N Choubey, told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Mumbai that control of Jet would need to remain in domestic hands. “Under no circumstances will we allow the substantial ownership and effective control to be busted,” he said, … [Read more...] about India’s Jet Airways in creditor talks over possible Etihad bailout

Jet Airways shares rise on Tata investment speculation
Shares in India's second-largest airline Jet Airways jumped almost three percent Wednesday following reports that salt-to-steel conglomerate Tata Group might invest in it. Tata is reviewing Jet's accounts with a view to potentially buying a stake, Bloomberg News reported, while on Tuesday the Mint daily said Tata's finance chief and Jet's chairman were leading the talks. A spokesperson for Jet termed the reports "speculative in nature" in a statement to India's stock exchange. The cash-strapped firm was not immediately available for further comment. After reporting a loss of $178 million for July-September, Jet on Monday announced it would cut flights on less profitable routes as part of a plan to reduce costs. Tata already operates two airlines -- Vistara in partnership with Singapore Airlines and AirAsia India with AirAsia Group. India's aviation sector is projected to become the world's third-largest by 2025. But high oil prices, fierce competition, a weak rupee and price wars have … [Read more...] about Jet Airways shares rise on Tata investment speculation
Horror as 30 passengers suffer ear and nose bleeds and struggle to breathe after pilots forget to turn on cabin pressure on Jet Airways flight
A JET AIRWAYS flight returned to Mumbai on Thursday after 30 passengers complained of ear and nose bleeding when the flight crew forgot to switch on the cabin pressure system. Jet Airways flight 9W 697 from Mumbai to Jaipur, a tourist destination, turned back shortly after take-off at around 6am. Videos tweeted by passengers aboard the plane showed oxygen masks deployed inside the aircraft. According to Flightradar24 aviation tracking site, the plane stopped climbing at 11,000 feet before returning to Mumbai. Passenger Darshak Hathi tweeted footage inside the cabin as air pressure dropped and oxygen masks came down. He said: “Panic situation due to technical fault in Jet Airways flight going from Mumbai to Jaipur. Flight is returning back to Mumbai after 45 minutes. All passengers are safe including me.” Mr Hathi also said there had been a problem with the plane's air conditioning when it departed Mumbai. India’s Jet Airways nosedives after earnings delay
Shares in India's Jet Airways tumbled more than eight percent on Friday after the embattled airline failed to release its latest quarterly earnings as scheduled. Local media have raised concerns about India's second-largest carrier, reporting it may cease flying in two months unless it makes major cost cuts. Jet Airways slid 8.04 percent in morning trade, a day after it told the Bombay Stock Exchange that it was delaying releasing its first-quarter results until an unspecified date, "pending closure of certain matters," it said in a filing. Intense competition, rising jet fuel prices, and a weak rupee have been credited for eroding the profitability of Indian airlines, including Jet Airways, India's number-two carrier by market share. Last week the Economic Times reported that Jet needs to make major cost cuts or face having to shut down operations within 60 days. The Mint financial daily reported that the airline was in talks with investors to raise cash. Jet Airways denied that it … [Read more...] about India’s Jet Airways nosedives after earnings delay

Now it will now offer five flights per week to the Indian city, on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The new route, which officially starts in November, is tipped to deliver a major economic boost to the northern economy. For the 500,000 people of Indian origin living in the region, it’s expected to be a key link. It is also hoped to bring millions of tourists to the north. Lydia Nazareth, general manager UK & Ireland at Jet Airways said: “We are pleased to increase the frequency on flights between Manchester and Mumbai ahead of our launch in November. “Jet Airways is committed to deepening both commerce and tourism ties between the two countries.
