Voters are going to the polls across the UK to pick 650 MPs - and that will the decide our next Prime Minister. The polls have Boris Johnson's Conservatives tipped to win either an overall House of Commons majority or the most seats in a hung parliament. Of course, anything is possible, and if Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party does win an overall majority it would have a radically different impact on Britain's future. Jeremy Corbyn has suggested he could cling onto the Labour leadership during a “process of reflection” as efforts to remove him got under way on Friday morning. Labour’s Brexit policy was mired in confusion yesterday after a key ally of Jeremy Corbyn said the UK could remain in the single market after Brexit. Rebecca Long-Bailey, the shadow business secretary, said it would be “fantastic” if a deal could be negotiated to allow the UK to stay in the single market and customs union. However, John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, has previously admitted that staying in the single market would be seen by voters as “not respecting” the result of the EU referendum. Brexit could be poised to tear Labour apart after a poll showed that more than 80 per cent of party members oppose Jeremy Corbyn’s plan to take the UK out of the European single market. Almost 70 per cent of members polled said they thought Britain should definitely stay in the trade bloc while a further fifth of members answered “more yes than no” to the question and just four per cent backed leaving the arrangement entirely.
