TOP Gear viewers were left stunned tonight after Chris Harris and Eddie Jordan cheated death when their £50,000 Renault sportscar burst into flames. The disaster was caught on camera and shocked viewers jokingly asked whether accident-prone former host Richard Hammond was back on the show. The pair were tackling a stage of the Monte Carlo Rally in Monaco for Top Gear when the vehicle caught on fire seconds after an engine warning light came on. Chris was driving the Alpine A110 around part of the course along with four other cars with Eddie in the passenger seat. The pair stopped the smoking vehicle as a warning light popped up on the dashboard and they feared the engine was overheating. They got out and walked away and just seconds later the supercar went up in flames. The huge fire destroyed the luxury roadster in just four minutes and it was reduced to a charred wreck. THE iconic Top Gear test track is finally set to be bulldozed and turned into a massive housing estate. The move, which has been in the pipeline for some time, has finally been given the official go ahead after the Communities and Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid personally approved the move which will see 1,800 new homes built on the site. The Top Gear track at Dunsfold Aerodrome is to be bulldozed and turned into a housing estate The site could also be home to shops, schools and churches which has been an integral part of the popular BBC motoring show since the long-running series was revitalised in 2001. The aerodrome in Surrey could also get a new name - Dunsford Park. Leader of the local Council, Councillor Julia Potts, said: "I am delighted that the Secretary of State has granted planning permission as this development will provide significant benefits to the local community, of the 1800 new homes 540 will be affordable.
