A Louisiana-based fast casual restaurant is the latest business that will open in the property next to Costco in south Lafayette. Smalls Sliders , started by one of the founders of Walk-On’s and backed by longtime Saints quarterback Drew Brees, will open on property near the intersection of Ambassador Caffery Parkway and Creek Farm Road in the development next to the Costco-anchored Ambassador Town Center shopping center. The store will be near the site Dave & Busters is targeting to open a Lafayette store. The location is ideal, said Kyle Stakes with the franchisee group opening the restaurant, with the development planned for that area. “We researched the market thoroughly,” Stakes said. “That’s a growing area. I think that development is going to be great for Lafayette. That side of town is where everything is moving. From all things we’re hearing from lease standpoints and non-disclosure agreements, I think they’re going to have some big names in that development.” … [Read more...] about This popular Louisiana chain restaurant to be next business to open in area by Costco

Nicotine patches, nasal sprays may also cut alcohol consumption: study
Nicotine patches, gums and nasal sprays prescribed to stop people smoking may also help them cut down on alcohol, a new study has suggested. Originally designed as the control part of a clinical trial to test whether anti-smoking prescription drugs would help people quit liquor, these retail remedies performed just as well, according to results of the study published in JAMA Network Open journal. After 3 months, participants reduced their alcohol consumption regardless of whether they were given nicotine replacement therapy or prescription drugs—varenicline or cytisine. The researchers say these medications could all play an important role in reducing alcohol intake and smoking. Study lead author Dr. Hilary Tindle, of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, said: "A single medication to treat both risky drinking and smoking could improve health efficiently and significantly. "Risky drinking and smoking frequently co-occur and they both threaten health by … [Read more...] about Nicotine patches, nasal sprays may also cut alcohol consumption: study
Scott’s Poetry Again
I CANNOT help taking fire at anything said in disparagement of Walter Scott. I feel that I have got from his writings, not only immense pleasure, but some good. He was a truly noble-hearted gentleman, a model of that class, and his character is impressed on all the works of his pen. A type, he seems to me, of social chivalry. In all his writings, too, there is the buoyancy of perfect health. In reading them you breathe the air of the Scotch hills. I can conceive no better mental febrifuge, no better antidote to depression, no more sovereign remedy for dull care. Scott was a hot Tory, perhaps a Jacobite, and his worship of monarchy in the person of George IV betrayed him into the one ridiculous action of his life. I have always been glad that he sat down upon the wineglass which he had put into his pocket to be kept as a relic because it had touched the sacred lips of the King. But his Toryism was not flunkyish. Nor was it narrow. It did not interfere in the slightest degree with the … [Read more...] about Scott’s Poetry Again
