Third Star film review and trailer
You might pop out of the room to make a cup of tea or flick through the Sunday papers but you'd keep watching it up until a poignant conclusion. On a big screen, however, the wistful, maudlin tale appears less compelling and keeps your interest in large part because of the subtle central performance of Benedict Cumberbatch as the terminally ill James. In the final stage of cancer, James gathers his best friends Bill (Adam Robertson), Davy (Tom Burke) and Miles (J J Feild) together for a trip to Barafundle Bay. Along the way, there are brawls and bickering, accusations and revelations and even an appearance from Hugh Bonneville as a beachcomber. All of this feels a little too pat and obvious until we edge towards a lump-in-the-throat finale with an emotional wallop absent from the predictability of the previous scenes. (Cert 12A; 92mins) Verdict: 2/5 By Allan Hunter … [Read more...] about Third Star film review and trailer

The poor starling chicks were forced to look on as the gull ate their mother in front of them, repeatedly smashing the poor bird’s body against the roof tiles to break its bones before gulping it down. The gull hangs out the back of our house all the time and is pretty formidable.
