Brock Long, administrator of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), said the damage to Paradise was "one of the worst disasters" he had ever seen. So far 56 people have been found dead in the Camp Fire that hit the town, but 130 more remain missing. About 9,400 firefighters are currently battling wildfires across the state. At a news briefing on Thursday, the director of California's fire service said "firefighters are making good progress" to contain the blazes, even as new fires continue to pop up. British holidaymakers set for Spain should expect Saharan dust clouds and wildfires as an unprecedented heatwave with 41C temperatures will blast the country, officials warn. Spain's meteorological agency Aemet predicted 'one of the hottest Mays in this country in recent years' as it warned of the coming weather front. The Saharan air will spike the temperature to "unheard of" levels as the agency launched its national plan for excess temperatures two weeks early on Thursday claiming "the summer is starting in the spring", the Mail reports. Wayne Rooney took to the stand this afternoon as the second week of Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney 's Wagatha libel trial continued today at London's High Court. Mr Rooney, 36, told the court that he was told during the 2016 Euros by then England manager Roy Hodgson to have a word with Jamie Vardy "on issues regarding his wife" Rebekah. Jamie Vardy later slammed the claims outside court , branding them "nonsense". Mr and Mrs Vardy failed to return to court after a short break in the afternoon proceedings. The two WAGS have been embroiled in the bitter battle since Coleen accused Jamie Vardy's wife of leaking 'false stories' about her private life in October 2019. A $31 million solution to the long-running issue of raw sewage leaking into rivers at two of Taranaki’s top holiday spots is to be fast tracked following the purchase of a site for a wastewater treatment plant The New Plymouth District Council has agreed to buy 41 hectares of land on Waiau Rd near Urenui and Onaero for $3.3m. The land is for a treatment plant that will enable the seaside towns to stop using septic tanks, many of which leak human waste into waterways. A third New Plymouth property owner has come forward with a story of a sinking house. While one property owner is still living in her house as is twists and sinks around her, a second sold to a developer, losing thousands in the process. Peter and Kathleen Adamski now want to make their story public claiming they lost hundreds of thousands of dollars after demolishing their house when it began to sink into the ground. They could not rebuild because an engineering report concluded the land, which the New Plymouth District Council had originally issued a consent for the house to be built on, was unfit as a construction platform.
