Major charities have called on Sajid Javid to adopt a “new approach” to immigration, urging for wide-ranging measures to prevent another Windrush-style fiasco and reverse “inhumane and arbitrary” policies introduced in recent years. In an open letter to the newly appointed home secretary, more than 20 NGOs supporting refugees and migrants in the UK said they hoped Mr Javid’s previous comments in support of those caught up in the Windrush scandal would “translate into solid action”. The group of charities, which includes the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, urged the home secretary to adopt an approach that treats people with “compassion and fairness”, highlighting that the status of the Windrush generation was “not an isolated problem”. Prince George and Princess Charlotte have met their new baby brother in hospital. George and Charlotte visited the royal arrival in St Mary’s Hospital’s Lindo Wing on Monday afternoon. Prince William left the hospital at about 4pm to pick the children up from school and returned with George and Charlotte at about 4.45pm. Charlotte gave the crowds of people a wave as she was led into the hospital with her daddy. George, four, and two-year-old Charlotte kept up a modern tradition of meeting royal siblings in hospital within hours of them arriving into the world. George visited Princess Charlotte in St Mary’s Hospital’s Lindo Wing on the day she was born. The then 21-month-old greeted crowds with a small wave. His father, Prince William, was taken by Prince Charles to meet one-day-old Prince Harry back in 1984.
