Officer Cadet, Patrick Crouch and Midshipman Iona Urquhart competed against 30 other nations at the event hosted by the Indian Naval Academy and held at Ettikulum Bay, Southern India. They were accompanied by Lieutenant Simon Schnetler who was co-opted as a member of the Protest Committee to help adjudicate.Each pair was split into A and B fleets and carried out races each afternoon across three days. OC Crouch raced well and finished in ninth position in his best race while facing good competition from his Australian and Canadian counterparts. He was placed in the top half overall of B fleet and qualified for the gold fleet for the final series of races, which in turn took place over two days. Scarborough Spa to host new dance competition
A new dance competition is heading to Scarborough Spa later this year. The Scarborough Super League Dance Day will take place on Sunday 11 November, with dancers of all grades and ages able to compete in competitions across the day.The competition day encourages dancers of all abilities to take part: from social dancers to champions and under 10 years to over 65's.It is organised by Diane Haywood and Gary Foster and will also host a number of solo events for competitors under 16 years of age who don't have a partner.The competitions will be held on the large dance floor in The Spa’s Ocean Room and will take place in front of an expert panel of independent adjudicators including former World, British and International dance champion David Trueman.Organiser Diane Haywood said: ‘With fabulous dancing, a top class panel of adjudicators and the very best in dance music providing a fantastic atmosphere and great entertainment this brand new event is set to be a great day … [Read more...] about Scarborough Spa to host new dance competition
Bucharest International Dance Film Festival takes over the capital between 6-9 September
The fourth edition of the Bucharest International Dance Film Festival, whose theme tis year is “[re]tracing,” will take place in the Romanian capital between 6-9 September across six venues. The festival will explore the traces left by time on the lives of the people and communities they are a part of. “The meeting between film and dance brings to BIDFF stories about resistance, perseverance and courage. By Laman Ismayilova Artists of the Moscow Regional State Ballet Theater "Russian Ballet" Mstislav Arefiyev and Siori Fukuda, awarded the Grand Prix of the Second International Competition of Classical and National Dances named after Gamar Almasdzade in Baku. “As part of the competition, Mstislav and Siori, having brilliantly performed compositions from classical and modern ballet, became the first and received the highest award - the Grand Prix of the competition. Actress Matisse Love won the second prize at the contest,” said the Culture Minister of the Moscow Region Oksana Kosareva. Dancers from Azerbaijan, Turkey, the U.S., Bulgaria, Spain, Israel, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Japan took part in the competition organized by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and the Baku Academy of Choreography. East Coast Dance Championships returning to Grimsby
Grimsby is set to play host to one England’s most prestigious dance competitions this week, as the East Coast Dance Championships returns to Grimsby for the third year. The East Coast Championship is one of the UK’s biggest, presented by the Theatre Dance Council International - which will see British and World champions race for gold. Talented dancers will be arriving from as far afield as Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester and Scotland; with over 30 dancing schools represented. Showcasing the cream of British dance, the line-up includes newly crowned World Champions from the 2018 Dance World Cup, recently held in Spain. The East Coast Championships are organised by Louise White, owner of Snip-its salon in Cleethorpes, and Grimsby born dance teacher and choreographer, Marc Harrison-Price.
