Mortgage warning over ‘ticking time-bomb’ as FOUR lenders to stop processing applications

Experts have warned of a mortgage "ticking time-bomb" as millions of homeowners on fixed deals which expire in the next 12 months are sitting on a knife edge, as mortgage rates are already thousands of pounds higher . Ray Boulger, technical director at broker John Charcol, said: "Lenders with the most competitive deals are receiving more applications than they can cope with and so they have two choices: increase their rates to reduce … [Read more...] about Mortgage warning over ‘ticking time-bomb’ as FOUR lenders to stop processing applications

Tories can no longer avoid telling hard truths about the route out of this mess
A few months back I wandered into the second-hand bookshop of a National Trust property. It confounded the modern reputation of the Trust by having on display a copy of Let our Children Grow Tall , a collection of Margaret Thatcher’s speeches from the late 1970s. They are of remarkable depth and length. Although we can well do without most aspects of the 1970s in our modern politics, it would be good to recover the ability to set out political ideas in a non-trivial way. The consensus set the intellectual climate. … [Read more...] about Tories can no longer avoid telling hard truths about the route out of this mess
The immortal Bruce Lee
Millions around the world have seen the late martial arts star Bruce Lee in action on the screen. But his remarkable career was much more brief than some people may realize. Here's Anthony Mason: In his films, like "Way of the Dragon," where he has epic fight in the Roman Colisseum with Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee let his moves do most of the talking: "To me a motion picture is motion. You got to keep the dialogue down to a minimum," he told interviewer Pierre Burton on Canadian television in 1971. In a no-holds-barred fight, he said, you better use every part of your body: "And when you do punch, you gotta put the whole hip into it and snap it and get all your energy into it." One of the most influential martial artists of the 20th century, Lee became the first international Asian film hero, a phenomenon who -- four decades after his sudden death at age 32 -- remains an icon. Playwright and screenwriter David Henry Hwang told Mason that, growing up in the '60s, "If I knew … [Read more...] about The immortal Bruce Lee
Cariad: Company drops plan to trademark Welsh word

Candle maker Fizzy Foam registered Cariad, hiraeth and Welsh cake with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). It stopped anyone making similar products using those terms, but the IPO has confirmed the firm has voluntarily given up the rights to the trademarks. Fizzy Foam previously said the trademarks only applied to candles. An IPO spokeswoman said: "The marks belonging to Fizzy Foam Ltd have been voluntarily surrendered. This means the owner has voluntarily given up the rights in the trademarks."
