According to a global food waste index released on Thursday, some 931 million tons of food waste were generated across the world in 2019. The report, published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and UK charity WRAP, equates that to 17% of all food available to consumers. At 61%, the majority was created in households. The retail and food service sectors performed better, generating 13% and 26% respectively. The index does not factor in food loss which differs from food waste in that it occurs during production, storage or processing and never reaches the consumer. "If we want to get serious about tackling climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and pollution and waste, businesses, governments and citizens around the world have to do their part to reduce food waste." UNEP Executive Director, Inger Anderson said in a press release. Amazon has opened its first contactless grocery store in the UK today where shoppers can pick up their goods and leave without having to visit a till. The Amazon Fresh store in Ealing, west London , is only available to those signed up to Amazon’s Prime subscription service, and customers must scan in a code on their phone to gain entry. Once inside, shoppers can pick up the goods they want without scanning them or visiting a till as motion sensors, cameras and other technology monitor the goods chosen. The bill is automatically charged to shoppers’ Prime account when they leave the store. While customers won’t need to interact with a member of staff, Amazon says workers will be on site to handle queries, restock shelves and prepare food. The store will stock about 10,000 grocery products from well-known brands, its own By Amazon grocery range, as well as items from its retail partners Morrisons and Booths. He flew the cast and crew to the Middle East for the latest run of scenes, but has been forced to end filming of the seventh instalment of the franchise after people refused to work any longer. Production staff demanded they were allowed to head back to the UK this weekend before hotel quarantine rules come into effect on Monday. Studio bosses have now had to charter a private jet to bring them home because they were up in arms about not being able to return to their families. A terror suspect had to be wrestled out of the dock during the closing speech of his trial as he protested suggestions that he was anti-British. Muhamed Abu , 32, swore at the prosecutor, John McGuinness QC, as he was dragged from the Old Bailey courtroom on Thursday, insisting he had "nothing against Britannia". His comments came in response to Mr McGuinness' closing statement in which he questioned whether the jury could believe the defendant had no animosity toward the UK. Mr Abu, from South Norwood, London, is accused of failing to inform police of an act of terrorism that he is alleged to have known was being planned by his brother, 27-year-old Sahayb Abu .
