The former United striker replaces Jose Mourinho after he was sacked on December 18, two days after a heavy 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Here, we look at how the former Norway international has worked his way up to become the new man to lead the Red Devils. Baby-faced assassin Solskjaer was a surprise signing by Sir Alex Ferguson in July 1996 after he impressed in his homeland, netting 20 in one season for Molde. He made an instant impression, scoring six minutes into his United debut before registering 18 Premier League goals in his first season at Old Trafford, which led to the Norway striker being dubbed the ‘Baby-faced Assassin’ by the media for his youthful looks. Manchester United are set to appoint an interim manager with a profound love for the club. With the massive influx for foreign players to the English game, some fans are understandably worried that their teams are made up of an international cast of journeymen with no attachment to the club and no appreciation of its heritage. But some foreign players end up falling in love, and buy into the club and the local community as much, if not more, than their British-born teammates. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was emphatically one of these players. It's impossible to overstate just how deeply Solskjaer's affection for Manchester United runs. He famously still refers to Sir Alex Ferguson as “the boss”. He has referred to Old Trafford as “home”. As a manager in Norway he has repeatedly compared his players to United players past and present, with one of the recent ones being powerful young forward Erling Braut Haaland (son of Alf-Inge), who he described as being … [Read more...] about What will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bring to Manchester United?

Supposedly wanted by Aston Villa and admired in boardrooms across the continent, the Bluebirds reckoned they had pulled off a real coup. Shine for a couple of years with Cardiff, so the theory went, and Solskjaer would end up at Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson's real heir apparent. Well he's certainly ended up at Old Trafford alright, but in spite of, rather than because of, his crack at the Premier League with Cardiff. Solsjkaer won just three of 18 games in charge of Cardiff, took them to rock-bottom in the table and down into the Championship. He lasted just seven matches into the new campaign before Vincent Tan, who had backed Solskjaer with money and assembled what was dubbed 'the biggest and best squad in Championship history', lost patience and ruthlessly fired his manager. How ironic that Solskjaer's first game in interim … [Read more...] about What Man United fans can expect from Solskjaer
Liverpool powered back to the top of the Premier League as Xherdan Shaqiri inspired a 3-1 win over bitter rivals Manchester United, while Arsenal's 22-match unbeaten run was shattered by a shock 3-2 defeat at Southampton on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp's side made it six successive league victories thanks to Shaqiri's late double after United's Jesse Lingard had cancelled out Sadio Mane's opener at Anfield. Shaqiri's superb substitute cameo allowed Liverpool to reopen a one point lead over second placed Manchester City after the champions had knocked the Reds out of first place with their win against Everton on Saturday. Liverpool's first win in their last six meetings with United ended a frustrating streak against the Old Trafford outfit that dated back to March 2016, while also extending their unbeaten start to the league season to 17 matches. While that was cause for pre-Christmas revelry on the Kop, more significantly, Liverpool's refusal to be subdued by a United team set up by Jose … [Read more...] about Liverpool back on top as Shaqiri sinks United, Arsenal’s unbeaten run ends
