BANGSAL - Associated Press Aid began reaching isolated areas of the Indonesian island struggling after an earthquake killed at least 131 people as rescuers intensified efforts Wednesday to find those buried in the rubble. Volunteers and rescue personnel erected more temporary shelters for the tens of thousands left homeless on Lombok by the magnitude 7.0 quake on Sunday evening. Water, which has been in short supply due to a prolonged dry spell on the island, as well as food and medical supplies were being distributed from trucks. The military said five planes carrying food, medicine, blankets, field tents and water tankers left Jakarta for the island early Wednesday. A young woman has been pulled alive from the rubble of a shop that collapsed when a 6.9-magnitude earthquake rocked Indonesian holiday islands. Nadia Revanale spent two days trapped under debris after the powerful quake killed at least 98 people, flattened villages and left tens of thousands of people homeless. Neighbours heard the 23-year-old's cries for help from the mangled concrete and alerted rescuers, who used their hands to clear debris in a desperate bid to reach her. It took four hours to free her from the rubble as the rescue on the island of Lombok provided a rare moment of joy for rescuers who are in a race against time after the second-deadliest quake of 2018. Thousands of homeless locals waited for aid on Tuesday and stranded tourists camped at beaches and in the lobbies of damaged hotels. The north of Lombok has been devastated by the magnitude 7.0 quake that struck on Sunday night, damaging thousands of buildings and killing at least 98 people. Rescuers were still struggling to reach all of the affected areas and authorities expect the death toll to rise. Disaster officials have not said how many people they believe are buried beneath the ruins of the Jabal Nur mosque but a rescue worker said about 50 people were praying inside when it collapsed.
