Iceland could be heading for a volcanic eruption after a staggering 17,000 tremors were felt in the southwest part of the island in the past week alone. The swarm of quakes on the Reykjanes Peninsula stretched all the way to the capital city of Reykjavík - which is 27km away - and the municipalities around it. The strongest earthquake yet was recorded on the same day the tremors began on February 24 and had a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale, CNN reports. One witness said while Icelanders may well be accustomed to tremors, the latest series is concerning as they've never lasted so long. " I have experienced earthquakes before but never so many in a row," Reykjavik resident Auður Alfa Ólafsdóttir told the CNN. "It is very unusual to feel the Earth shake 24 hours a day for a whole week. It makes you feel very small and powerless against nature." The tremors have prompted the office of Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir to warn there may be a lava eruption in the … [Read more...] about Iceland could see volcanic eruption after recording 17,000 tremors in past week

Why is Saudi Prince Bin Salman not being punished for my fiance Jamal Khashoggi’s brutal murder?
SAUDI Arabia’s Crown Prince stands accused of having blood on his hands over the audacious murder of rebel journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The dissident was slain in the Saudi consulate in Turkey more than two years ago — and dramatic new evidence suggests the oil-rich nation’s ruler Mohammed bin Salman watched the killing via video link. Bin Salman, the Saudis’ Crown Prince, denies having anything to do with Jamal’s death but investigators suspect the victim was killed on camera so the murder could be overseen in his home country. The evidence features in new documentary The Dissident , directed by Oscar winner Bryan Fogel. US investigators, as well as the United Nations, believe Bin Salman backed the slaying of Jamal. The Turkish authorities recorded all of the conversations inside the Saudi consulate where the journalist was killed in October 2018. The documentary claims the murder had been planned in advance. ‘THEY START TO CUT UP THE BODY WITH A BONE SAW’ … [Read more...] about Why is Saudi Prince Bin Salman not being punished for my fiance Jamal Khashoggi’s brutal murder?
EU blocks export of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Australia
The European Commission and Italy have blocked a shipment of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine destined for Australia after the pharmaceutical company did not fulfil its European Union contract commitments, sources said on Thursday. It is the first time the EU has employed an export control mechanism it set up to ensure drug manufacturers respect their contracts. The sources said AstraZeneca had reportedly requested authorization from the Italian government to export some 250,000 doses from its Anagni plant, close to Rome. The site is owned by US group Catalent. Italy reportedly refused the request, and the European Commission backed its decision. According to the Associated Press, an EU official, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed the vaccine block, which was first reported by the Financial Times . Pope arrives in Iraq for historic first-ever papal trip to nation despite fears over security and coronavirus
The Pope has arrived in Iraq for an historic weekend visit which carries both symbolism and risk. With a message of inter-faith tolerance, Francis will spend four days in Iraq in what is his first foreign trip in more than a year and the first-ever papal pilgrimage to the war-hit nation. Francis, who wore a facemask during the flight, took it off before descending the stairs to the tarmac and was greeted by two masked children in traditional dress. A red carpet was rolled out at Baghdad International Airport with prime minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on hand to greet the pontiff. A largely unmasked choir sang songs as the Pope and Mr al-Kadhimi made their way to a welcome area in the airport.
