Slovak scientist explains what new black hole image tells us about the galaxy
For many years, scientists have suspected that there is a supermassive black hole at the centre of our galaxy, the Milky Way. The clearest evidence so far has been how gravity governed the paths of surrounding stars. Now, astronomers have unveiled an image of the object known as Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), giving the very first visual evidence of this phenomenon. Using this, they were able to peer through interstellar dust clouds and gather enough data to take the picture. Artist uses miniature railway figurines to create lifelike images
Miniature railway figurines were used to create surreal images inspired by dreaming of sunny holidays in these stunning snaps. David Gilliver, 42, of North Lanarkshire, Scotland, has used his pioneering art form to do work for commercial campaigns including 3, Sony, and Adobe - but his main passion is making his own images, using props. He collects miniature railway figurines from as far away as Japan and Singapore and sends them to an artist to be painted to his own specifications. They are then posed with other props, including shortbread biscuits to create a version of Stonehenge, and a plastic avocado to resemble a sunbed, and photographed. Gilliver, who studied at Glasgow School of Art, said the technique has been copied by others trying to imitate his unique take on modern life, and prints have been sold in John Lewis . He often uses fruit to create a landscape, including oranges sliced in half, and grapes, which look giant in comparison to the tiny figurines. … [Read more...] about Artist uses miniature railway figurines to create lifelike images

Digital forensic expert tells court Amber Heard photos showing ‘bruises from Johnny Depp’ were ‘modified’
A digital forensic expert told the court in the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial that photos of Heard were ‘modified’. Bryan Neumeister testified in court on Wednesday and was asked about the authenticity of photos which appear to show Heard with bruises. When questioned about his opinions on the photos by Depp’s lawyer, Numeister responded: ‘There’s no way for any forensic expert to validate any of these photos.’ Neumeister went on to list the data that can be used to analyse a digital photo. When asked about his opinions that any photograph in the case was ‘intentionally modified by Miss Heard,’ he responded: ‘I’m just stating the fact that photographs were modified.’ ‘So you are not offering any opinion that any photograph in this case was intentionally modified by Miss Heard, correct?’ Heard’s lawyer asked. ‘That’s correct,’ Numeister responded. Speaking about the first photo shown to the court, Numeister explained that there are ‘many versions of this … [Read more...] about Digital forensic expert tells court Amber Heard photos showing ‘bruises from Johnny Depp’ were ‘modified’
