Here are some of your holiday questions answered. When can we holiday at home? Domestic holidays will be allowed from April 12 - after Easter - although hotels and B&B’s will not open until at least May 17. When can we travel abroad? Charles Darwin: ‘Treasured’ keepsake box owned by naturalist’s daughters to go on display

· February 24, 2021 ·

A "treasured" keepsake box that once belonged to Charles Darwin's daughters has been donated to English Heritage and will go on show later this year. The Victorian red leather box contains shells gathered by Darwin on his famous Beagle voyage, where his observations fostered the ideas that led him to develop his theory of evolution. Darwin's descendants have donated the red leather box and its "treasures" to English Heritage, which will display the object at what was Darwin's home - Down House, in Kent. The naturalist and his wife Emma gave the box to their daughters, who, starting with the eldest, Annie, filled it with family mementos. When Annie died, aged 10 in 1851, the box passed to her sister Henrietta, otherwise known as Etty. Advertisement She continued to fill it with souvenirs, including locks of hair belonging to members of the Darwin family, Darwin's silk handkerchief and the shells. The creator of hit BBC drama Line Of Duty says it is set to continue beyond the sixth series which will air next month. Writer Jed Mercurio also said there was the possibility of Bodyguard coming back for a second series but he had not made his mind up. Millions of fans are awaiting the new series of Line Of Duty with the last series pulling in 9.1 million for the finale. Jed said: “What I do know is that season six proves there is much more ground for us still to cover and then in terms of other projects. I really want to carry on with Line of Duty as I think it still got some ground to cover. “I am in a fortunate position as a writer. To dream of getting to the point where people watch your work in such larger numbers and you get a little bit of name recognition as well. “In terms of other projects, I think that I learned a lot from the success of Bodyguard. It really was very heartening to see the way in which an audience would come to something that was completely … [Read more...] about Line Of Duty writer confirms another series – and hints at Bodyguard sequel

Traveller mum throws daughter, 10, a party so she can meet a husband – and is fine with her getting pregnant at 14 too

· February 23, 2021 ·

A TRAVELLER mum has thrown her 10-year-old daughter a party so that she can meet her future husband. Lee Ann, from Philadelphia, brought shame upon her family when she married non-traveller Joe and is now trying to get back in their good books with daughter Mary. The mum is keen for her daughter to find a “good gypsy boy” to settle down with, but Mary is torn between what her mum and dad want for her. Speaking on TLC’s Gypsy Brides US, Mary says: “They argue about it a lot. “My mum wants me to clean and have children and take care of them. My dad wants me to become a writer. “I want to have both, I don’t just want to have one.” And when the subject of Mary’s upcoming tenth birthday party is raised, it isn’t long before Lee Ann and Joe butt heads. Lee Ann says: “Mary is about to turn ten and I planned her a birthday party. “I think it needs to be for her to meet future husbands and for their families to get a look at her.” Joe is horrified at the prospect … [Read more...] about Traveller mum throws daughter, 10, a party so she can meet a husband – and is fine with her getting pregnant at 14 too
