Thud! Thud! Thud! Sorry about the noise, it’s the sound of me kicking myself for never having been to Jersey before. There’s no particular reason why, I’d just not been, and nor had my wife Debbie. But thankfully that mistake has now been rectified. And splendidly so too. Getting there was a doddle for us: a 50-minute hop from Gatwick – there are flights from all over the UK – then out of the airport in moments. The friendly Hertz hire car desk staff had us heading to our vehicle in minutes. We were staying at the four-star St Brelade’s Bay Hotel, one of the best properties in the Channel Islands. As we were not due to check in until 3pm we had time to explore, so carried on up the coast road past the hotel to St Aubin, a pretty little port with a fort reached by a causeway at low tide (more about tides later) and plenty of shops and cafes. After a wander we found a stall by the harbour selling Jersey ice cream which cried out to be tested – passed with flying colours. We … [Read more...] about Jersey should be top of your wishlist with amazing beaches and superb sights

Fans of Tiger Woods expressed fears for the star just days before his potentially fatal accident. As police confirmed the golfer’s seatbelt saved his life after losing control of his SUV at speed on Tuesday, worrying questions about his frame of mind began to swirl. Wood was rushing to meet American Football stars Drew Bees and Justin Herbert at a golf club where they were due to film for GolfTV when he crashed, shattering his legs. The star is said to have appeared “agitated and impatient” and almost smashed into a TV director’s car as he left an exclusive Los Angeles resort after becoming “blocked in” by another driver. Iceland hit by thousands of quakes and threat of volcanic eruption
Iceland's meteorological service IMO said Monday that 3,000 tremors had been registered on the northern coast of the country. Three quakes measuring over magnitude 5 were recorded in recent days, with one of them being felt in the capital Reykjavik, located some 265 kilometers (165 miles) away from the epicenter. The quake's epicenter was located 20 kilometers from a small village of 1,200 people, and several dozen kilometers from Akureyri, the second-largest city in Iceland with a population of nearly 20,000. "Compared to previous earthquake swarms in the area it is expected that this swarm will continue during the coming days," the government institution said. "But in most cases activity like this ends without a larger event," it added. I’m a tough cookie and put on a brave face but I’ve been depressed and struggled to cope, says Alex Scott
From the outside I’m sure most of you know me as that smiley woman from the TV. And largely, I am. I love socialising, I love meeting new people and I love my work. I love to laugh. That’s me . But there are still days where I feel low. These low days look different for everyone – I personally go quiet, inwards, shut myself off. I’ve been really open about how I see a therapist, and how that was such a positive change in my life. That said, it was only through my recent BBC documentary, The Truth About Improving Your Mental Health that I was told I was depressed. Looking at my daily life, many would wonder how I could be ‘depressed’. But mental illness doesn’t work like that. It’s so easy to think there are people worse off than us and we have no right to feel sorry for ourselves. But that thought process alone can be really dangerous, and lead to bigger problems. Mental illness can strike anyone at any time - no matter your age, gender or race. It doesn’t … [Read more...] about I’m a tough cookie and put on a brave face but I’ve been depressed and struggled to cope, says Alex Scott
