And according to reports, the Blues are ready to "go big" to agree a deal with Frenkie de Jong. Darts majors could leave UK and World Series replaced as Barry Hearn sets out PDC plan
Barry Hearn says it is inevitable that some of the major tournaments in the darts calendar will move away from the UK in the future as the PDC’s global expansion of the sport continues. The bulk of the majors take place in England, including the World Grand Prix which has recently moved to Leicester, first due to the pandemic and then because its traditional venue, Dublin’s Citywest Convention Centre, is housing Ukrainian refugees. The PDC have ambitious plans for the sport, which is looking to gain a foothold in America and held the US Darts Masters at New York’s Madison Square Garden as part of the World Series in June. The objective of the invitational World Series is to grow the game worldwide, with its next three events taking place in Australia and New Zealand this month. Tennis star Serena Williams hints she will retire after 2022 US Open
Former female World Number 1 tennis star Serena Williams has indicated she will retire from tennis this year. The 40-year-old American player says she will "evolve" away from the sport "toward other things that are important to me" after the US Open in September. Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and ranks second only behind fellow American Margaret Court, who retired in 1977. She has won more titles in the professional era than any other woman or man. Williams also holds the joint record of being ranked No. 1 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for 186 consecutive weeks. She won the French Open three times between 2002 and 2015, as well as seven Wimbledon titles -- the most recent in 2016. She also won four Olympic gold medals and became the first tennis player to achieve a grand slam in both singles and doubles, where she played alongside her older sister Venus. Coronavirus: UK deaths rise by 43 to 465 in last 24 hours
The number of people who have died in the UK after contracting coronavirus has risen by 43 to 465. It represents the smallest rise in the number of deaths since 17 March - more than a week ago. But there was the biggest increase in the number of infections across the UK - up 1,542 to 9,529. In England, 28 people died in 24 hours. There were four deaths at Barts Health NHS Trust in London and four others at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. Advertisement Those who died include a 47-year-old who did not have an underlying health condition. The others who died, including one person aged 93, did have underlying health conditions.
