Move over maths and forget philosophy – Surrey students can now do a degree in rapping. The first-of-its-kind BA in Rap and MC-ing is being offered to students at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford . The course will be led by professional rapper ShaoDow, who has been featured on Radio 1, Radio 1Xtra and 6Music, and could lead to students studying grime artist Stormzy. Modules for the degree include lyricism, flow, delivery and originality, with the course due to be rolled out at both ACM’s Guildford and Birmingham campuses. ShaoDow said students’ technical abilities would be honed not just by him but a variety of industry experts with experience he says is invaluable to any young rappers. “When I was young, just asking a question about what to do next is worth more than a degree,” he said. Around 290,000 high school graduates in Spain are taking their university entrance examinations, a grueling set of nationwide tests that began on Monday in some regions and will end mid-month in others.
