Face masks may not be required indoors in public places over the summer, one of England's deputy chief medical officers has suggested. COVID-19: BioNTech boss confident coronavirus vaccine will work against new variant
BioNTech's boss has said he is confident the company's vaccine will be effective against the new coronavirus variant. Ugur Sahin said, however, that more tests were needed before he could be completely sure of the efficacy of the drug. The Pfizer/BioNTech jab is the only vaccine approved for use in the UK so far. It is also being rolled out in the US. COVID vaccines will be available from GP surgeries from today - as the race to protect Brits from the virus is ramped up. The Oxford/AstraZeneca jab can be stored at fridge temperatures making it easier to administer, unlike the Pfizer jab which requires storage at -70C. It's hoped more than 700 GP surgeries will be delivering vaccines by the end of the week - after the UK recorded the highest daily death toll since April.
