Martin Chambers is the first to admit he can talk the hide legs off a donkey.But that's not the most important skill he uses when it comes to the volunteering role he took on almost three years ago.Mr Chambers, who is 68 and lives in the Tenterden area with is partner Sue, volunteers for Victim Support in Kent.The charity helps people who have been the victims of crime and it relies on volunteers giving up their own time to get out into the community to support others who have sometimes been through horrific and traumatic ordeals.More people than ever now have access to support if they have been a victim of crime.During the last financial year the charity made contact with more victims of crime than ever with more than 85,000 people being offered support.Victim Support is based in Ashford is always looking for more people to become volunteers and spare time to help others.It is also KentOnline, kmfm and KMTV's Charity of the Year for this year.Mr Chambers is retired and has four grown … [Read more...] about ‘I don’t need you anymore. Many brides already have some idea of what their dream wedding dress will look like, but Shanice Davis is making sure she gets it by designing it herself. Not only has she designed the gown, forward-thinking Shanice, 25, has drawn up the bridesmaid dresses too. So all she needs now is the proposal from her 'Prince Charming' Dean Carey. "We've known each other for eight years and we've been together a year and a half," says Shanice about her boyfriend Dean, 26. "I've got the wedding dress planned - it's a big princess-style white satin dress with a massive cathedral train. I've shown Dean the design, and I've also designed the bridesmaid dresses. Last Valentine's Day 14-year-old Alyssa Alhadeff woke up, got dressed, and did her hair and make-up ready for school as ususual. Before she left her mum Lori handed her a gold gift bag containing a pair of earrings, chocolate bar and some hairbands. They both said 'I love you' as Alyssa opened the car door and headed to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. Later that day a former student opened fire, killing 14 students and three teachers - including Alyssa. Lori never saw her little girl again. A year after her death, Lori has penned a heartbreaking letter to her daughter. "Mothers know. Intuition prevails", she writes.
