Calls for Asda to rethink plans to make employees sign new contracts that could leave them worse off are growing. Workers have been told to sign the so-called 'Contract 6' which would see them lose paid breaks and make bank holiday working mandatory. Asda has said that the new contracts would see worker's basic rate rise to £9 an hour and that Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day will remain voluntary and paid at double time. The GMB Union however, has said that thousands of workers will be left out of pocket. Some Asda workers have also spoken out to say they feel 'trapped' by the new contracts, which were previously available voluntarily. A leaflet apparently handed out to staff suggested that they would have their contracts terminated if they don't sign the new contacts. It reads: "You will have a number of 121s with your manager. People across Tameside have gone to the ballot box again - this time to vote in their Members of European Parliament. A total of eight seats in the European Parliament are up for grabs in the North West Area which covers Greater Manchester as well as Cheshire , Cumbria Lancashire and Merseyside. Here is a breakdown of how people voted in the EU elections in Tameside which includes areas such as Ashton Hurst , Ashton St Michael's, Ashton Waterloo, Audenshaw, Denton North East, Denton South, Denton West, Droylsden East, Droylsden West, Dukinfield, Dukinfield-Stalybridge, Hyde Godley, Hyde Newton, Hyde Werneth, Longdendale, Mossley, St Peter's, Stalybridge North and Stalybridge South.
