Pickets have been organised outside every major hospital in the county as junior doctors prepare for a mass walk-out today. More patients are dying than they should be at 29 NHS trusts, claims an eminent hospital death rates expert. MailOnline last week named and shamed the 13 health service-ran organisations across England that recorded excess deaths in 2017. But Professor Sir Brian Jarman, who helped expose the Mid-Staffordshire hospital scandal, fears the true figure is much higher. He recalculated the NHS Digital data for MailOnline and found a further 16 trusts ran by the health service fall into the excess deaths category. According to his analysis, there were 6,800 more deaths than expected at hospitals ran by the 29 trusts - significantly more than NHS estimates of 3,700. Nineteen workers from the same company have been taken to A&E today after coming into contact with toxic liquid at a Hull company. The group had to attend Hull Royal Infirmary's Emergency Department on Wednesday morning after reporting skin irritation as a result of coming into contact the toxic substance. It is not yet clear what the substance was that caused the injuries although a spokeswoman for the hospital told Hull Live that 19 people had been admitted on Wednesday as a result of using a "specific cleaning agent". The skin irritation suffered by the patients has been described as "minor" and they have all since been discharged. One woman visiting a relative in hospital said her sister was warned that she could not be seen urgently at accident and emergency due to the sudden influx of patients. A former boss of Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Hospitals Trust has been charged with fraud. Phil Morley is due to appear before Hull Magistrates’ Court on June 8, alongside former chief nurse, Amanda Pye, the BBC has reported. Mr Morley has been charged with four counts of fraud, and Ms Pye faces one charge. Mr Morley was chief executive at the trust, which runs Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill hospitals, for four years until his resignation in April 2014. A Hessle charity took its incredible donations to hospitals in Hull past the £100,000 mark as they handed over two state-of-the-art ventilators. Members of the Hessle Epilepsy Society presented staff at Hull Royal Infirmary with the pieces of equipment – worth £24,000 – on Friday. The latest donation takes the charity’s total fundraising for the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust to more than £100,000.
