A BRIDE-to-be was left with a giant scar on her nose after a "clogged pore" turned out to be skin cancer. Joanne Wall was stunned when doctors told her the almost invisible bump was actually a sign of the disease. The 48-year-old was given the news just months before she was due to walk down the aisle. She only mentioned the spot in passing to her GP, never thinking it was anything sinister. Just a month after doctors diagnosed her with basal cell carcinoma (BCC), the gran-of-two had surgery to cut out the cancer, and stretch skin from her cheek across her nose. The op left her with a vivid bumpy, red scar in the shape of a heart across her face. Although she's tying the knot with Craig Middlebrook, 49, in September, she said she doesn't regret the surgery, but added she couldn't have got through it all without her husband. Here's what you need to know about the condition. What is basal cell carcinoma? Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a non-melanoma skin cancer which usually develops in the outermost layer of the skin, known as the epidermis. It accounts for 75 per cent of all skin cancers. BCC is also known as rodent ulcer and it usually appears as a small, pink or white lump with a waxy appearance. In some cases it can look like a scaly, red patch on the skin and there can be a brown pigment within the patch. Typically the lump gets bigger over time and can bleed, get crusty or transform into a painless ulcer.
