0 Have your say THERE are many similarities between this relegation season and the last time Huddersfield Town fell from the top flight of English football. One thing they must guard against, however, is what happened next. From the start of the new year in 1972 to the end of the season Huddersfield won just three games – all in the FA Cup. They memorably beat a West Ham United side containing World Cup winners Geoff Hurst and Bobby Moore 4-2 in the fifth round, Jimmy Lawson, Terry Dolan, David Smith and Frank Worthington scoring the goals to brighten a stark season.Derby County, under Brian Clough, were crowned First Division champions, but were the last side Huddersfield managed to beat in that campaign, the victory coming in late November. From the turn of the year onwards Town recorded eight draws and 10 defeats, scoring just six goals in the process as they were relegated with Nottingham Forest, finishing four points shy of safety in the days when it … [Read more...] about Big Match Verdict – Why Huddersfield Town must avoid a repeat of history

The Hammers meet the third-tier side at Rush Green at the weekend following a 3-1 win over Blackburn in the last round. And while Town currently sit second in the National League Northern Premier Division, Ross said the players knew how their opponents put out Championship side Charlton Athletic in the last round.Huddersfield were 3-0 down with 15 minutes to go, only to draw 3-3 and eventually go through on penalties.“Obviously, it’s the FA Cup, anything can happen and all teams are always up for the knock-out stages, so I think we definitely can’t underestimate Huddersfield,” said Ross, speaking to The East … [Read more...] about We won’t take anything for granted against Huddersfield
0 Have your say THERE has been precious little to smile about for Huddersfield Town lately. Marooned at the foot of the Premier League after taking a solitary point from 11 games since the end of November, the Terriers are heading nowhere else but down. Just how bad that relegation proves to be will not be known until the curtain comes down with the final-day trip to Southampton. But, on current form and when factoring in a goals tally that stands at a paltry 13 from 24 games, it seems likely that the list of Lowest Points Totals in the Premier League will need updating come May.Grim times, indeed, and yet today 1,500 fans will be heading to the capital in support of head Jan Siewert’s side after the last of Town’s ticket allocation was snapped up earlier this week. It is an impressive show of support for not only the new head coach, but also a squad looking punch drunk after taking one too many blows in recent weeks. Part of the attraction, of … [Read more...] about Chelsea v Huddersfield Town: Return to the Bridge rekindles positive memories
