ISLAMABAD: Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman on Wednesday said that at least 77 people have lost their lives as monsoon rains wreak havoc across the country, with 39 deaths reported from Balochistan alone. The current monsoon rains left hundreds of homes destroyed and hampered rescue operations in remote areas of the country. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the minister termed the casualties a "national tragedy" and said that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has prepared a national contingency plan to deal with the situation during the monsoon season. The NDMA has also called on people to stay alert to prevent further damage, she added. “We need a comprehensive plan to avert these [deaths and devastation] as all of this destruction is taking place due to climate change." Duke of Kent Prince Edward visited the UK's largest display of Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s historic lifeboats at Chatham historic dockyard, 26 years after opening the original collection in 1996. The Buckingham Palace shared photos of the Duke’s visit on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday. The Duke has been the RNLI's President for over half a century. During the visit, he was shown three of the charity's most significant lifeboats, which between them have saved more than 300 lives at sea. Court seeks supplementary challan of Dua Zahra case
KARACHI: Judicial Magistrate (East) Aftab Ahmed Baghi on Wednesday sought a supplementary challan of the Dua Zahra case and the call-record data of Zaheer Ahmed from April 15 to 19. During the course of the proceedings, Jibran Nasir, the counsel of Syed Mehdi Ali Kazmi, argued that the C-class challan is automatically rejected after the ruling of re-investigations in any case. Raising questions over the role of police, the lawyer said, “the suspect came to the police but he was not arrested.” He maintained that Dua was "forced to tell a lie". “Who would be responsible if Zaheer flees the country?” asked the lawyer," he maintained that the suspect should fight his case in court. ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Wednesday said that any recording — either audio or video — made to expose a crime is not a crime unless it is done to blackmail someone. The interior minister made these remarks in Islamabad while addressing a press conference where he was asked to comment on the alleged audio of Bushra Bibi in which she could be heard directing the PTI social media head to run trends against party rivals and declare them traitors. The audio has sparked a debate over privacy issues, while the PTI has demanded the top court take notice of the leaked audio.
