Crisis for Boris Johnson as Sunak and Javid lead wave of resignations from government

I recognise this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning." In his letter to the prime minister , Mr Javid said he could "no longer, in good conscience, continue serving in this government" as he referenced the tone and values of Mr Johnson reflecting "on your colleagues, your party and ultimately the country". It will mean the next Speaker will be chosen by the current cohort of MPs, two thirds of whom voted Remain. Mr Bercow said if he had waited to stand down after the next election, newly-elected MPs would not be “informed” enough to make the right choice. Inside the Head of an Aging Serial Killer
When Jeff Lindsay first wrote his Dexter novels, about a blood-spatter analyst who kills bad people in his spare time, he unintentionally kicked off a modern love affair with the fictionalized serial killer. In the years following Dexter Morgan’s televised debut on Showtime, humanizing portrayals of murderous antiheroes have increased. There’s the protagonist of Hannibal , whose artistic refinement drew an FBI agent to him. In a slightly different mold, there’s John Tavner of Amazon’s Patriot , a traumatized hitman who bungles jobs and would rather play music, and the titular character of HBO’s Barry , a reluctant gun for hire who just wants to act; these killers take lives grudgingly, as if murder were a monotonous day job. Viewers, in turn, get a relatable, largely genial protagonist to root for. The writer Kim Young-ha recognizes, and challenges, this cultural sympathy for the serial killer with his recent collection of short stories, Diary of a Murderer . Dutch farmers block food distribution centers over new environmental rules
Dutch farmers angry at government plans to slash emissions used tractors and trucks to blockade supermarket distribution centers on Monday. Fishermen also blocked some ports in a show of support for farmers. Their actions were part of ongoing protests against a government proposal to slash emissions of pollutants like nitrogen oxide and ammonia by 50% by 2030. Provincial governments were given a year to draw up ways of making the cuts, which were expected to include buying out some farms with livestock that produce large amounts of ammonia . How serious is the crisis? Nitrogen oxides play a significant role in air pollution, and nitrous oxide contributes more to the greenhouse gas effect than CO2. Farmers, however, argue they are unfairly targeted and that government has shown little concern for their futures.
