Ronald LeDuff was about to become a father. His girlfriend was five months pregnant with a baby girl the couple planned to name Royalty. A lover of the outdoors, Ronald would muse about games he and his daughter would play outside, like football, his favorite sport. His dreams were dashed over the weekend in a burst of gunfire. As LeDuff checked his mail on Saturday, a neighbor who had menaced the couple’s street for years , Henry Williams III, began yelling at him, then walked over to LeDuff's property and continued arguing with him, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said. The altercation quickly became physical, deputies said; when LeDuff, who was unarmed, saw Williams had a gun, he turned and tried to run. Williams shot him multiple times as he fled, deputies say. Witnesses said the 25-year-old, a welder by trade, lay bleeding on the street as medics rushed to the leafy block on the easternmost edge of East Baton Rouge Parish. He was taken to a hospital, but … [Read more...] about Ronald LeDuff died standing up for his neighborhood. Now his daughter won’t know her father.

Mum ‘bitten 25 times’ in mauling from American Bully dog bought from dodgy breeder
A mum who had chunks ripped from her arm after her American Bully bit her 25 times, has defended the breed and says it is not dangerous. Stephanie Jones, 32, from South Wales, purchased the puppy named Chase after messaging a botched seller on Snapchat. She was rushed to hospital following the horrific attack by the six-month-old dog and says she failed to spot the warning signs when she purchased him. The mum-of-three claims the breeder keeps dozens of dogs in shocking conditions, which she was unaware of because he stopped her from entering his home. Stephanie, who lives near Swansea, went to collect the 10-week-old puppy in April last year for £3000, reports the Mirror . She said: “He literally came out to me by the car, passed the puppy through the car window and promised to send all the paperwork in the post and I never received anything. I’ve learned my lesson.” The mum later spoke to people who knew the breeder and was told he is unlicensed and there are … [Read more...] about Mum ‘bitten 25 times’ in mauling from American Bully dog bought from dodgy breeder
MI5 agent forced partner to ‘watch videos of executions’ and attacked her with machete
A twisted MI5 agent forced his partner to watch sick videos of "executions and murders" and even attacked her with a machete, a BBC investigation has found. The BBC said the government took the organisation to court to block publication of their story, and said they could not release the name of the man involved, despite him being a danger to women. However, a government representative told the Daily Star that their decision to block naming of the man was "aimed at protecting national security and avoiding a real and immediate risk to life, safety and privacy." The BBC reported that X, whom they call a right-wing extremist with a violent past, has since left his partner to continue working abroad in a country where he also has a violent past. It tracked down two victims of the man's abuse, with one saying: "There was so much psychological terror from him to me, that ultimately culminated in me having a breakdown, because I was so afraid of everything - because of how … [Read more...] about MI5 agent forced partner to ‘watch videos of executions’ and attacked her with machete
Internet in stitches as shoes appear to “melt” in Vegas heat: “Splatforms”
In 2021, data analytics company Earnest Research reported that online retailer Shein had overtaken H&M, Zara, and Forever 21 to become the biggest fast-fashion retailer in the U.S. But this weekend, one woman shared how her outfit from the popular retailer seemingly couldn't stand up to the intense Las Vegas heat, in a TikTok video that has now received more than 320,000 views. Before attending the Lovers and Friends festival in Las Vegas, TikToker eacarrasco spent weeks carefully compiling the perfect outfit. But the chunky Mary Jane shoes, listed on Shein for $31 here , seemingly couldn't take the heat, appearing to collapse under her feet as she walked in the now-viral video. Leading the market with a 28 percent share, the Chinese brand Shein was founded in 2008. Valued at $100 billion in a recent funding round, the company is now worth more than H&M and Zara combined. Selling inexpensive fashion and lifestyle products, the site reportedly adds more than … [Read more...] about Internet in stitches as shoes appear to “melt” in Vegas heat: “Splatforms”
Video: Chanel unveils Cuba-inspired collection in Havana
French fashion house Chanel brought glamor back to Communist-ruled Cuba on Tuesday in a runway show on one of Havana's main boulevards, featuring glittering gowns, tulle cocktail dresses and models in Panama hats smoking cigars. Chanel is the first major fashion house to hold a runway show in Cuba, highlighting both warming relations with the West and new inequalities on the island. Former Cold War foes the United States and Cuba formally agreed to restore diplomatic relations last July . Celebrities, including actress Tilda Swinton and supermodel Gisele Bundchen, jetted into the Caribbean island for the show that evoked the elegance of pre-revolutionary Cuba, arriving at the venue in vintage convertibles . Cuban motifs in the new Cruise line were exemplified in a fabric depicting turquoise and pink vintage cars used for leisurewear such as jackets, a bathrobe and skirts. Karl Lagerfeld, who has been at Chanel's creative helm since 1983 , has said his latest … [Read more...] about Video: Chanel unveils Cuba-inspired collection in Havana
Pollution killed over 9,000,000 people across the globe in 2019
Pollution killed one in six people worldwide in 2019, a new study has revealed. That’s more than the number of people lost to war, malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, drugs or alcohol. According to the study, published by the Lancet Commission, air pollution was the biggest killer – claiming almost 6.7 million lives. Epidemiologists explained that tiny particles emitted by traffic and industries get into the bloodstream and poison major organs, causing cardiovascular disease, cancer , COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder) and even Alzheimer’s. ‘Pollution is still the largest existential threat to human and planetary health and jeopardises the sustainability of modern societies,’ Philip Landrigan, the co-author of the study, said. The report calls for a rapid transition away from all fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy. More than 1.8 million deaths were caused by toxic chemicals such as lead — a 66% rise since 2000. Deaths from hazardous chemical … [Read more...] about Pollution killed over 9,000,000 people across the globe in 2019
Dad on dialysis ‘shocked’ by Boris Johnson’s hostile reaction to his plight
A dad footing soaring household bills including his dialysis costs has said he is ‘shocked’ at Boris Johnson ’s ‘hostile’ response after his plight was raised at Prime Minister’s Questions. Phoenix Halliwell has been forced to effectively switch off his heating as he tries to maintain his life-saving haemodialysis for five nights a week. The former electrician, 46, needs to use his machine for nine hours of treatment at a time – with the alternative being having to go into hospital. His case was raised by Sir Keir Starmer at the House of Commons today, with the prime minister asking for details about the ‘sad’ situation. However, Mr Halliwell, from Coventry, has little faith in the government to help him or thousands of others in a similar predicament amid the escalating cost of living crisis. He told Metro.co.uk: ‘I found Boris Johnson’s response to be hostile, it almost felt like he was having a personal attack on me, although it’s probably just my … [Read more...] about Dad on dialysis ‘shocked’ by Boris Johnson’s hostile reaction to his plight
Putin ‘facing a coup after his closest allies accept they’ve lost the war’
Vladimir Putin’s top security officials think the war in Ukraine is ‘lost’, making the chances of a coup more likely, an analyst in Moscow says. The chances of the Russian tyrant launching a nuclear strike are receding as it is likely people would refuse to carry out his order. That’s according to expert and investigative journalist Christo Grozev, who suggests Putin is losing his grip on power. He says leading officials are unlikely to obey Putin’s commands to launch nukes as they don’t trust he will still be in power in three months time. ‘I think that it is the informed elite within the security forces who understand that the war is lost,’ Grozev told Radio Liberty. He said Putin’s inner circle understand the president would need a full mass mobilisation to win the war, but this would cause a ‘social explosion’ in Russia. Some hardliners may pressure for use of nuclear or chemical weapons, Grozev warned. But others will say ‘enough is enough’ and ‘it is … [Read more...] about Putin ‘facing a coup after his closest allies accept they’ve lost the war’
