A WIND turbine and planting 1.5 million trees are ideas being considered to make Henley carbon neutral by 2030. Members of the Climate Emergency 2030 working group met at the town hall on Tuesday to consider draft proposals. These included installing a wind turbine as a source of renewable energy, although several members conceded that there was unlikely to be a suitable location for it in the town. Patrick Fleming, secretary of Henley in Transition, said farmland in Wokingham could be a possible site for the turbine and suggested contacting John Halsall, the leader of Wokingham Borough Council, for advice. A wind turbine apprentice at Ørsted in Grimsby has impressed national award judges with his innovative ideas and passion for his trade. David Davidson, 22, was among just 10 finalists selected in this year's Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition - competing for the chance to win a career boosting £10,000 trade bundle. During the national final at Google's London headquarters, David competed in a series of tasks against nine other finalists including a panel interview with judges from across the construction industry, and was recognised as one of the standout stars in this year's competition. He will now receive funding to take his science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) work to a national level. An MP has added his voice to residents who fear the Lower Wharfedale landscape will be lost if plans for a turbine are given the go ahead.
