Grenfell Tower was built in 1974 by Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council. In 2017 it underwent a multi-million pound redevelopment. It emerged that the fire was intensified by low-cost cladding that had been added to the building as part of the recent renovation work. MOUNTAIN rescue teams rushed to the UK's highest peak after climbers were caught in "huge powder clouds" when a deadly avalanche struck Ben Nevis. Located in the Scottish Highlands, we look at what happened during the massive snowslide, and how many people lost their lives as a result. How many people died in the Ben Nevis avalanche? Two climbers have died and another two have been injured after an avalanche on Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain. The avalanche occurred at Number 5 Gully. A spokesman said: "We can sadly confirm that two people have died and two people have been injured." Donald Paterson, deputy team leader of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, said the four men had been hit by a "massive" avalanche that fell 1,500ft on top of them. The 1955 plane, piloted by Andrew Hill, who survived the crash, plummeted into a fireball on the busy A27, hitting vehicles and pedestrians. A CEILING collapsed at a Pontins holiday park last night leaving six people injured. The terrifying crash happened at the entertainment centre of the Brean Sands resort near Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset. What caused the incident? One person staying at the holiday park said he thought the main clubhouse roof has collapsed. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement: "The incident involved the collapse of approximately 40m of structural ducting and ceiling sections, exposing live damaged electrics and making the scene unstable. "Fire crews used eight high-pressure airbags and small tools to establish that no persons were trapped beneath the collapse." The scene was made safe and fire crews had left the scene, they added. Shocking figures reveal the number ‘excess winter deaths’ and those living in fuel poverty in Boston and Skegness last winter. A staggering 6,172 households in the Boston and Skegness constituency live in fuel poverty, according to the charity National Energy Action (NEA). Worringly, the charity also reveals there were 40 ‘excess winter deaths’ in the area last winter - 30 per cent of which ‘were attributed to cold homes’.This means 12 people in Boston and Skegness died as a direct result of having a cold home last winter, according to the NEA.In the East Midlands as a whole, there were 4,200 excess winter deaths, with 1,260 vulnerable people ‘dying as a direct result of not being able to heat their homes adequately’. Excess winter deaths are the number of deaths occurring during the winter season compared with other times of the year.
