Surge testing will take place from Monday after cases of the Brazil COVID-19 "variant of concern" were found in England and Scotland. The variant is the latest to be detected in the UK as the government hopes to reduce transmission through lockdown measures and the vaccine roll-out. Sky News takes a look at where the new variant was found, whether it is more transmissible than other strains, and if vaccines will work to stop infection. What is the Brazil 'variant of concern'? The variant, called P1, is a branch of the B.1.1.28 lineage that was first detected in Japanese travellers who had visited Brazil, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said. Now I can extend it fully, and even put my shoes and socks on. I'm optimistic I'll be able to return to work sooner, rather than later, now.'
