Now, we finally raise the curtain, so you can hear Jonas Kaufmann make one of opera's most famous arias, his own. RNZ An Auckland-based theatre company says the performing arts industry is on the brink without access to a wage subsidy or resurgence payments. (Audio first aired February, 2022). A protection policy to help prevent and deal with cases of child abuse within local theatre societies, groups and companies in Aotearoa has been rolled out. The child protection and duty of care policy was developed by Musical Theatre New Zealand – the national body for musical theatre community groups – alongside Child Matters , a registered charity and educational service with a focus on prevention of child abuse. Unlike many other countries, child protection training is not mandatory for those who work with children in Aotearoa. Given the increasing number of opportunities for, and participation rates of children in local performing arts work, Musical Theatre NZ wanted to provide a “protective barrier at the top of the cliff”, vice president Emma Bishop said. Michael Owen’s Premier League final day predictions including title race and relegation battle
Michael Owen has made his predictions for the final day of the Premier League season as Manchester City and Liverpool battle for the title and Leeds United and Burnley bid to avoid relegation. The English top-flight is set for a tense finale as title rivals Man City and Liverpool go into the last round of fixtures separated by just one point. Victory for Manchester City against Aston Villa would see Pep Guardiola ’s side win their fourth title in five years, but a slip-up would open the door to Liverpool, providing they beat Wolves. Leeds United will join Watford and Norwich City in the Championship next season if they lose to Brentford but a win or a draw will pull Burnley into the drop zone unless the Clarets pick up points against Newcastle United. The top-four battle is technically still alive but fifth-placed Arsenal need to beat Everton and hope north London rivals Tottenham lose to bottom-placed Norwich to sneak into fourth. Elsewhere, Manchester … [Read more...] about Michael Owen’s Premier League final day predictions including title race and relegation battle

In some cases, the charity added, broiler chickens in farms grow so large prior to being slaughtered that they struggle to walk. Scottish services may be cut to fund welfare policies
Nicola Sturgeon has been urged to explain which public services she will cut to fund a promised splurge on more generous welfare payments. A report released on Thursday by Audit Scotland, the public spending watchdog, warns that the Scottish Government will need to find more than a quarter of a billion pounds a year to pay for a series of benefits pledges by 2026. The SNP has set out plans to operate a more benevolent welfare system than the UK Government, with some benefits coming under Holyrood’s control as part of the extra powers devolved after the independence referendum . However, Audit Scotland highlighted independent forecasts which predict the Scottish Government will have to find an extra £760 million to pay for its more expensive welfare policies within four years. That figure does not include a recent SNP pledge to increase the Scottish Child Payment - a new Scottish-only benefit made available to parents on low incomes - to £25 a week. Scottish ministers also … [Read more...] about Scottish services may be cut to fund welfare policies
