You just can't beat a nice juicy burger, can you? Whether your preference is for beef, chicken or veggie, and whether you like it covered in melted cheese, smothered in barbecue sauce, topped with gherkins or loaded with onion rings, there's something very satisfying about this your whole meal being handed to you in a bun. Earlier this week, we asked 'who makes Leicester's best burger?' and it's obviously a subject you feel passionate about, as we had hundreds of responses to the Facebook post. We read through the replies, and a few places came out on top. Among these were Five Guys, Handmade Burger Co. and Crafty Burger. So, we thought it was only right that to put these places to the test and see just how good they are. To keep it fair, we ordered a similar burger at each (beef burger with cheese and bacon, plus a few extras). Handmade Burger Co., Highcross Handmade Burger Co. describes itself as being passionate about "great, fresh, natural food" which sounded promising. My visit to … [Read more...] about We put Leicester’s best burger joints to the taste test
How are vegetarian burgers made
If there’s one thing we’ve all established over the past few years, it's that Bristol likes a burger. We've always had a pretty booming burger scene here, but it fully exploded last year and the trend has continued into 2018. As well as the independent stalwarts that have been firm favourites in the city for years, some incredible new places have opened to give meat-craving diners even more choice. And as it's National Burger Day, we thought it was a good time to run down where to find Bristol’s absolute best burgers, with picks from those in the know including Bristol Live's food critic Mark Taylor. So without further ado, here is a rundown of the best burgers you can find in our fair city… SQUEEZED It mights be tiny, but Squeezed certainly packs a big bunch when it comes to its patties. Messy, delicious and full of flavour, Squeezed certainly knows how to pull in the crowds. Its St Werghburger has become the stuff of legend on Bristol's burger scene. Where is … [Read more...] about Where to find the very best burger restaurants in Bristol
Burgers are big in Manchester. Although the burger rush has quietened down in recent years, the originals - Almost Famous, Solita, Archie's - still stand strong, with Get Chucked and Firebird Hope breaking through to join the fray. It's a local offering good enough to ward away most of the larger chain operators, with Byron Hamburgers closing two of their three restaurants in the city and Gourmet Burger Kitchen retreating to the captive audience of the Trafford Centre. With many of the bigger chains withdrawing back to the south with their beefy tails between their legs, one has swum upstream, against the current, to open a burger restaurant in Manchester. That brave joint is Honest Burgers. Born in Brighton, there are already 33 Honest Burgers sites in the UK. Their recognisable dark green frontages cover London like their signature flecks of rosemary salt cover their chips. The Manchester site opened on Bridge Street back in April, tucking into what was once the garage at the former … [Read more...] about Do the ‘best burgers in Manchester’ live up to the hype?
Suddenly, everybody’s got beef with hamburgers. At this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC (think the Conservative Party conference, with less tweed and more Republican Party members), an unlikely political rallying cry was born. ‘They want to take away your hamburgers!’ cried Sebastian Gorka, a strategist formerly attached to the Donald Trump administration accused of having ties to far-right groups in Europe. ‘This is what Stalin dreamed about.’ The ‘they’, naturally, were ‘socialists’ — more specifically, a Democratic Party caucus advocating a radical ‘Green New Deal’ to mitigate the impact of climate change on the planet. So yes, because we live in strange times, Big Macs and their ilk are now a political hot potato. In the UK too, the agenda is flipping faster than a Five Guys production line. Next week burger mainstay Patty & Bun will launch a range of delicious … [Read more...] about How the humble hamburger became a symbol of liberty under threat
Zlati Meyer USA TODAY Published 10:05 AM EDT May 28, 2019 Grilling season is officially starting, so now, the question becomes: What are you putting on your barbecue? While chicken, fish, pork and hot dogs all may have a place on the plate, burgers remain king. But what kind of burger? Plant-based meat is watching its popularity soar, reaching the stratosphere with Beyond Meat IPO on May 2. Then, on May 14, Burger King announced that it was expanding sales of its Whopper made with Impossible Foods patties from St. Louis to three other U.S. markets. As you contemplate whether the meat you put on your grill comes from a cow or a plant, consider who may or may not stand to gain from your choice.
