0 Post a comment Wednesday, 3 July 2019 - Local People by The Post @twitter.com/ThePostSeries [email protected] BUDE Stratton Town Council is to meet tonight (Thursday), with one item on the agenda that has had everyone talking — the renaming of the Ivor Potter hall. The Post previously reported on the town council’s decision to rename the Ivor Potter Hall in the Parkhouse Centre to the Parkhouse Centre Main Hall, and the subsequent public dismay at the change.Because of the way council operates, it is not possible for any one individual to reverse a decision of the council. The procedural way for the council to review a decision is now being followed and a ‘notice of motion’ has been served by six councillors. It reads: “We the undersigned, in accordance with Standing Orders 9b and 7a, request that the council reconsiders the decisions made by the Full Council on 6 June 2019 (C/103/19) and retain the name of the Ivor Potter Hall in view … [Read more...] about Will town council overturn its decision on the Ivor Potter Hall?
Andy Preston's run to the top job has been paved with promises. That's music to the ears of a lot of people in the town. Listen to the chat in the pubs and clubs, supermarkets and high streets around Middlesbrough and you're likely to hear people moaning about one thing. Council tax. The prevailing narrative seems to be that residents pay too much, and get too little in return. You only have to look at the comments section on Teesside Live and on Mr Preston's social media feeds - or listen to independent councillors and candidates - to feel that bubbling frustration, especially with council spending on developments like the Centre Square office buildings. Then there's the pent-up rage which has continued to build following criticism of the council's approach to selling assets - such as Acklam Hall and the TAD Centre. Mr Preston has distanced himself personally from much of that criticism. He's said he thinks the Centre Square office plan could work - should he be at the helm and … [Read more...] about The promises Andy Preston will have to keep now he’s in power
There are more than 7,000 towns across the UK - but only one in Notts has made it onto a list of the most picturesque in the country. A list of the 100 most Instagrammed towns nationally has been published and - unsurprisingly - features a number of well-known coastal resorts at the top of the list, including Bournemouth, Scarborough and Whitby. But coming in at number 51 is Mansfield - with a total of 243,138 hashtags on the photo-sharing platform. The Cheap Hotels 4 UK website looked at how many times the 7,000+ towns in the UK searching for each town as a hashtag, and identifying how many images had been tagged. It then ranked each of the towns based on this number in order to determine the top 100. Halifax came out at number one, followed by Bournemouth and Scarborough. Of course, being tagged on Instagram is not always an indication of having a pretty town centre or heritage buildings, but according to the website it offers a pretty good indication. It said: "The UK is home to … [Read more...] about This is the most Instagrammed local town (and the only Notts one in the top 100)
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers heaped praise on young centre back Caglar Soyuncu for his display after stepping into the side at the last minute. The Turkey international has struggled for game time this season but was drafted in after Jonny Evans was ruled out with a hip injury. Harry Maguire was also given time off following the birth of his daughter in the week and Rodgers said he was delighted with his first look at Soyuncu. The 22-year-old did concede the penalty which allowed Huddersfield Town to reduce the arrears to 2-1 after goals from Youri Tielemans and Jamie Vardy, but James Maddison and Vardy again ensured a comfortable win for City. “A special mention today to Cags, our centre half,” said Rodgers. “He was only told this morning he was playing and that is testament to him. “I thought his performance, apart from a loose pass at the end when he was tired, was outstanding having not played for five months. “He was very good and it was a very … [Read more...] about Rodgers explains why he left out Evans and Maguire
