Armagh reached 31.4C (88.52F) at 3.20pm this afternoon, according to the Met Office, beating the 31.3C (88.34F) in Castlederg in County Tyrone on Wednesday. Weather: Northern Ireland records new ‘highest temperature’ of 31.3C – as UK heatwave set to break up
Northern Ireland has again recorded what's thought to be its highest-ever temperature - but the UK heatwave is forecast to soon give way to heavy rain and thunder. Castlederg in County Tyrone hit 31.3C (88.34F) on Wednesday afternoon, with the Met Office tweeting that the record had "provisionally" been broken. It is just above the 31.2C (88.16F) confirmed in Ballywatticock on Saturday . Thursday is set to be hot and sunny again, with amber warnings for extreme heat in Northern Ireland, parts of southern England, the Midlands and Wales. But the high temperatures are set to fall in most places from Friday, and there is a yellow weather warning for rain this weekend. Fianna Fáil's Micheál Martin will serve as taoiseach (Irish prime minister) until December 2022, RTÉ has reported . Fine Gael's Leo Varadkar would then become taoiseach again. A general election was held in February , but no party got a majority and coalition talks were halted by coronavirus. Mr Varadkar has been caretaker taoiseach since 8 February. The draft deal, which comes after two months of negotiations between the parties, will now have to be endorsed by their parliamentary teams, before being put to their respective memberships for approval. The tánaiste (Irish deputy PM) accused Number 10 of "siding" with unionists in seeking to scrap parts of the deal agreed in 2019 . The DUP has said the protocol damages Northern Ireland's place in the union. But Mr Varadkar said the UK government's bid to unilaterally change the protocol was a "strategic mistake".
