Jeremy Corbyn sorry after hosting event whose speaker compared Israel to Nazis
Jeremy Corbyn apologised today after hosting an event whose star speaker had compared the Israeli government to the Nazis. The Labour leader said he was sorry for "concerns and anxiety" after hosting the talk in Parliament on Holocaust Memorial Day in 2010. The event was part of a tour called 'Never Again - For Anyone', a reworking of the 'Never again' mantra used in the wake of the Holocaust. Reports suggest the full title was 'Never Again For Anyone - Auschwitz to Gaza', The main speaker was Hajo Meyer, a passionate anti-Zionist who survived the Auschwitz Nazi death camp and railed against the actions of the Israeli government. His talk on the tour was entitled: 'The misuse of the Holocaust for political purposes'. According to the Times, the late Mr Meyer told the event in Parliament: "Judaism in Israel has been substituted by the Holocaust religion, whose high priest is [Nobel prize-winning author] Elie Wiesel." He repeated that comment in a speech as part of the same tour, in … [Read more...] about Jeremy Corbyn sorry after hosting event whose speaker compared Israel to Nazis
Jeremy Corbyn hosted event comparing Israel with Nazis on Holocaust Memorial Day
LABOUR’S spiralling anti-Semitism crisis has hit a new low after Jeremy Corbyn hosted an event comparing Israel with Nazis on Holocaust Memorial Day. The party leader has since issued an extraordinary apology when it was revealed he organised an event in parliament called “Never Again for Anyone — Auschwitz to Gaza”. Mr Corbyn, who was a backbencher at the time in 2010, admitted that by being pro-Palestine he has “on occasion appeared on platforms with people whose views I completely reject”. He added that he “apologises for the concerns and anxiety that this has caused” following the revelations by The Times. But Labour MP John Mann said the event puts him in breach of the party’s code on anti-Semitism, and in breach of “any form of normal decency”. The veteran campaigner on the issue told the BBC after this latest incident: “The Labour Party is seen by most members of the Jewish community to have declared war on … [Read more...] about Jeremy Corbyn hosted event comparing Israel with Nazis on Holocaust Memorial Day

Process for hosting events in unlicensed venues is now simpler
The process for artists to host events in unlicensed venues has now become simpler, both bureaucratically and financially, after new regulations were announced on Monday by the government. Speaking in a press conference at Argotti Botanical Gardens in Floriana, Arts Council Malta’s Executive Chairman Albert Marshall welcomed the change in regulations, which had been years in the making, and said that they removed “draconian” measures which were affecting the ability of artists to express themselves. Marshall also said that the council was working in tandem with authorities in relation to noise levels in and around Pjazza Teatru Rjal, stating that they were working to reach a compromise between the expression of the artists performing in this theatre, and the comfort of the residents in that area. Renowned DJ Joven Grech, known as Tenishia, meanwhile spoke of how he had campaigned for these changes to come into being. He said that the measures being put into … [Read more...] about Process for hosting events in unlicensed venues is now simpler
