Having spent all of his career in the North West fighting out of the famous Joe Gallagher gym, it’s easy to forget that former British light-heavyweight champion Hosea Burton is actually a Geordie. Born in Newcastle, Burton attended Cragside and Benton Park Primary Schools before his family relocated to Manchester, birthplace of his father. Burton is part of the huge Matchroom Boxing bill that day at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena. “I can’t wait for it,” he said. “I’ll be honest, at … [Read more...] about Former British boxing champion Hosea Burton is coming home Newcastle on June 16

Former three-weight world champion Ricky Burns has been added to the Matchroom Newcastle show on June 16, along with Sunderland’s super-lightweight champion Glenn Foot. The show at the Metro Radio Arena already featured five title fights, including a Commonwealth title challenge for Rio 2016 Olympian Josh Kelly, and a British lightweight title defence for Forest Hall’s Lewis Ritson, but now has more to look forward to with the latest additions. Also added to the bill is Manchester-based, Newcastle-born, former light-heavyweight British champion Hosea Burton and North East prospects Laurence Osueke, Darren Reay and Chad Ellis.
