The Quorn voted for, the Cottesmore against. So the merger will not take place. The fact that the Quorn wants a merger is, given its history, astonishing. For a century and a half, it was the epitome of fast, grand hunting — with too much ‘leaping’ for hunting purists, but any amount of swagger. Melton Mowbray was to hunting what St Moritz is to skiing. The place was full of louche, rich, grand persons, chancers, hucksters, poules de luxe, all so well satirised by Surtees. National Hunt legend Sir AP McCoy wants master salesman Barry Hearn to run horse racing. Knight rider McCoy, the 20-times champion jockey, makes a comeback of sorts in the saddle at the Olympia Horse Show this weekend. As the season enters its Christmas break, the Greens sit top of the pile, two points clear of their nearest rivals, Newport (Salop). But with only four points separating as many teams at the top, Robinson knows there is still all to play for over the final 12 games of the season, which resumes on January 5. “The table predicts that its between us Newport, Bridgnorth and Luctonians at the moment, but there are only four points between us and Luctonians and that is only a win,” Robinson told the Telegraph. “You would think the league champions would come from those four and possibly Sheffield and Broadstreet as well. “It has been a great first half of the season. We’ve only lost two and drawn one so we have been really successful so far and the table shows that. “We are in a really strong position and there are around four teams in … [Read more...] about Scunthorpe RUFC coach Tim Robinson believes it is a four-horse race for title
