Ellen White is on the brink of history. The Manchester City hotshot needs just four more England goals to surpass Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney and become the country's leading international goalscorer of all-time. If that prospect wasn't exciting enough, she could achieve the remarkable feat on home soil during the women's Euros this summer, which begins today. White is currently on 50 goals for the Lionesses. One more will move her above Harry Kane into second, three more will see her draw level with Rooney, while four during the tournament will guarantee her place in the history books. Sky Sports and England favourite Sue Smith says it would be an "unreal" achievement if White can break the record this summer. READ MORE: Football fan slept rough for 10 years after getting lost going to the toilet at San Siro "It would be unreal for her," Smith exclusively told Daily Star Sport at the launch of VoucherCodes' Women's EURO 2022 Spending Report. … [Read more...] about Breaking Wayne Rooney’s England record would be “unreal” for “model pro” Ellen White

Four ways Nadhim Zahawi may try to boost the economy
Published 7 minutes ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Following the shock resignation of former Chancellor Rishi Sunak, his replacement Nadhim Zahawi has said he and Prime Minister Boris Johnson want to "rebuild the economy" and get soaring inflation under control. Mr Zahawi said "nothing is off the table" in terms of cutting taxes. What are some of the options open to the new Chancellor to make good on those plans? 1. Cut VAT Mr Zahawi has said he wants to do two things: cut taxes and "bear down" on inflation. Those are not usually happy bedfellows. Cutting taxes puts more money into the economy, which drives prices up - so how can he walk this line? A temporary cut in VAT - the tax paid when buying goods and services - from 20% to 17.5%, say, would lower the price of goods and services in the basket used to calculate inflation - taxes would get cut, and … [Read more...] about Four ways Nadhim Zahawi may try to boost the economy
Fat shaming and problem eating: The dark side of the Tour de France
The entire industry is guilty of leering at competitors. This happens especially at early-season races, like the Tour Down Under, when a rider’s physique is callously judged in whispers and sideways glances on a scale of ‘Watch out!’ to ‘That fat f--- has no chance of winning the Tour de France.’ In a feature I wrote for Procycling magazine about mental health and wellbeing in the peloton, Richie Porte illustrated what it felt like to be at the receiving end. “If you turn up to race [in Europe] a couple of kilograms over what you were in the Tour Down Under, the amount of riders that say stuff to you is...” he trailed off. “In the modern world you don’t get away with commenting on that [weight], but you have riders and staff who think it’s their right to.” Porte, who finished third overall at the 2020 Tour in what was Australia’s second-best performance on general classification in the history of the race, is resigned to it. “When you see some of the food you can’t eat, and … [Read more...] about Fat shaming and problem eating: The dark side of the Tour de France
