Welcome to our weekly Jaguar Land Rover news digest, in which we share stories from across the media about Britain’s biggest car maker. Jaguar Land Rover continues to deal with a number of challenges - including slowing sales in China, declining demand for diesel vehicles and Brexit uncertainty. But the big news is JLR's deepening partnership with BMW. CoventryLive has taken a detailed look at the partnership, which was announced in June. The car makers then announced plans to work together to develop electric drive units (EDUs) for the next generation of electric vehicles. Since then there has been speculation that much closer ties are to be forged, including BMW supplying Jaguar Land Rover with petrol engines and the Coventry car maker sharing a BMW platform. Elsewhere there was some good news for parent company Tata with its shares rallying amid reports China is set to remove or relax restrictions on car purchases. Jaguar Land Rover also featured in reports of falling UK car … [Read more...] about The BMW tie-up and Tata’s rising share price
Honda’s Jazz hatchback has been a very popular model in recent years, appealing to those who look for reliability and low running costs, but are not too concerned about sporty performance. However, the Jazz is now available with a more punchy 1.5-litre petrol engine which will widen its appeal to younger buyers who tend to prefer more zesty performance and sharper handling. The previous 1.3-litre 101 hp petrol engine is still available, but the new 1.5-litre unit packs 128 hp, and with a six-speed manual gearbox (a CVT auto gearbox is an option) delivers a quick 0-100 kph time of 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 190 kph (118 mph). Average fuel economy is 17 kpl (47.9 mpg) and emissions are 133 g/km. With this larger engine in my upper-spec Sport Navi test model, there was not only an immediate performance boost but a whole new persona for the Jazz because it has also had an exterior make-over to give it a bolder and more potent look, which helps it compete in a tough sector … [Read more...] about Honda Jazz Sport Navi

Customers in the UK, Germany, France and Norway can now put their name down for one of the much-anticipated EVs via a dedicated reservation site. A refundable reservation fee of £800 will get them a “priority ordering” slot and they will then be able to place a full order later this year, with first deliveries of the vehicle from spring 2020. Pricing hasn’t been announced but most industry observers expect the compact urban car to cost more than £30,000.
