Couple say their home of more than four decades has been invaded by flies

May 26, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A couple say their home of more than four decades has been invaded by flies, and they're so embarrassed they refuse to let anyone in. Angela Hickey, 68, and John Hickey, 79, claim the property they've lived in for 43 years has been taken over by thousands of drain flies, which belong to the Psychodidae family and are sometimes known as moth flies. The couple, from Stanmore, Middlesex, in southeast England, allege that their housing association has not dealt with the problem satisfactorily. The pair were moved into a hotel after the association said they would fumigate the property and pull the kitchen out to assess the source of the problem. The Hickeys claim that when they returned home, they found minimal work had been done - and the flies were still in the property. Nearly 18 months since they first noticed the flies, they're still trying to get rid of them. Home Group Housing Association said its team had "gone over and above to try to resolve the issue." But Angela … [Read more...] about Couple say their home of more than four decades has been invaded by flies

LOVE Island stars Teddy Soares and Faye Winter have increased security at their home after a terrifying break in. The couple moved into their dream home together just three months after finishing as runner-ups on the show last summer. But they've had to install CCTV and an alarm system that immediately calls the police if the alarm goes off. Insulate homes to curb soaring energy bills, Government is urged

May 26, 2022 by www.independent.co.uk

The Government has faced widespread calls to invest in insulating homes and shifting from fossil fuels to renewables to combat soaring energy prices. Rishi Sunak has been forced to unveil emergency measures to counter the cost-of-living crisis, including £400 off energy bills for millions of households, but was accused of having “missed the memo” on energy efficiency. Fuel poverty and green campaigners and politicians called on the Government to invest in home insulation, efficient electric heat pumps and renewables to cut the reliance on fossil fuels whose costs have soared. Many welcomed the new support for households – and the £5 billion windfall tax on oil and gas company profits also announced by the Chancellor – but said money should have gone into a widespread programme to make homes cosier and cheaper to run.
